The Rachel Zoe Project Review

Monday night was the season 2 premiere of The Rachel Zoe project. Like most Bravo reality shows, I find RZ Project to be horribily adictive. If not because I love watching all the beautiful clothes, people, and fashion she is fortunate enough to surround herself with, then because I love hearing her say all her catch phrases like "I die" or "That's bananas!" or "You're shutting it down!". Yeah. You watch a few episodes and try and tell me you're not catching yourself repeating some of her Zoe-isms! More info about The Rachel Zoe Project can be found here:
If you're not familiar, Rachel Zoe's job is one of the premiere A-list stylists in the country. Basically - she shops for a living! She gets to pick out the clothes, the shoes, the bags, and the accessories that celebrities wear to events. Rachel often offers up fashion advice over Twitter. If you'd like to follow her you can do so here:
Something fun that Rachel Zoe has recently started is The Zoe Report. The Zoe Report is a daily email featuring something that Rachel is currently loving. Items featured in The Zoe Report tend to be a little pricey but no worries - there's also a Parallel Universe item featured at the end which is almost always an exact replica at a much nicer price. You can sign up to receive The Zoe Report here:
Still not enough? Check out Rachel's book. Rumor is there will be a sequel soon. I die!

Fashion's Favorite Month

September is THE fashion month. The fall fashion shows are always the biggest and the best, and the September issue of all the fashion magazines reflect that. Most people would say that Vogue is the paragon of the fashion magazine industry and I would be inclined to agree. Anna Wintour has done an exceptional job with US Vogue, but many true fashionistas would argue that Carine Roitfeld at French Vogue is the magazine you should be looking at to see what is truly on the brink of hitting it big in the fashion world. Don't speak French? No worries. All you need to do is look at the editorials. In addition to Vogue I love checking out Elle, Allure, Marie Claire, and InStyle just to name a few. The clothes and accessories featured in these magazines aren't always the most affordable, but sometimes it's about the idea. I look through these magazine to get inspired by color combinations, shapes, and styles. You can then look for these things at stores that match your price point. Don't be intimidated by fashion - have fun with it!

In addition to my overflow of magazines this month, 2 of my favorite TV shows are back for brand new seasons. Project Runway is airing it's 6th season on Lifetime on Thursday nights and TONIGHT the 2nd seasons of The Rachel Zoe Project premieres on Bravo. Be sure to check these out as they are both great shows for inspiration!

Look I'm Loving

Shenae Grimes at InStyle Magazine’s 8th annual Summer Soiree.
What she's wearing: Isabel Lu dress, Miu Miu shoes, Loree Rodkin jewels and a Kotur clutch
Ok, if you're looking at this and getting completely distracted by the sleeves - calm down! I know the sleeves will detract more conservative dressers from thinking they could wear this, but it's the overall shape and silhouette of the dress that I think is flattering. Shift dresses can sometimes make you look like you're wearing a sack, but with the right tailoring they provide a very flattering but casual silhouette. The way this Isalbel Lu gently curves in at the waist showcases Shenae Grimes' hourglass figure (and she can sometimes look a little too skinny!). The hemline again might be something that deters some people, but when shopping for yourself pick a slightly longer length if that makes you more comfortable. Overall, this is such an easy look - shift dress, strappy heels, metallic accessories and a clutch. However when you put it together the right way it's eye catching, fun, and vibrant. Remember when looking at outfits for inspiration to not get distracted by details that you wouldn't wear and focus on the overall look. This is something any girl could wear!

House of Harlow 1960

A jewelry line I'm really loving lately is Nicole Richie's line, House of Harlow 1960. I love the line, I love the price point, I love how it emulates Nicole's own bohemian style, and I love the name. Harlow is her daughter's name - I mean, how cute is that?!

Some of my favorite pieces:

These Rose Gold Plated Hoops are probably my favorites. Rose gold has such a classic, vintage feel to it. Obsessed with these :)

These Medallion Earrings are another classic. This is a style that will always look chic. How easy is it to dress up an outfit with a pair of gold earrings? Always a go to look!

Love that this Dome Ring can do double duty fashion wise. It has the classic vintage look which will make it permanently wearable, but at the same time it's a nice statement piece which is currently trendy. Basically, you can't lose :)

Also LOVE this headband on Nicole Richie. Maybe not the most wearable for everyday fashion, but definitely fun!

*First 3 pictures are from and the last is from ShopBop carries House of Harlow 1960 and also has an interview with Nicole Richie, so head on over there if you'd like to see more!

Fashion's Maven

Hi everyone and welcome to Fashion's Maven! I guess first of all I want to thank anyone who is bothering to read this :) I've been an avid reader of fashion blogs for sometime now and have been itching to start one but wondered what it is I have to say. I'm still not entirely sure what that is, but I know that I need a creative outlet in my life right now and I think this will be a good one for me. Fashion is a big part of my life. I think it's fun and it's something I'm passionate about and enjoy talking about. I don't think I'm an expert of any sort and I don't have any formal training, I just love it. So basically I still have a lot to figure out - on this blog and in my life. Here's hoping that somehow I get some guidance with both of those. Please bear with me while I try to figure everything out!
