Thanks, Sephora!

I was checking Twitter this morning and was pleasantly shocked and surprised to see this:

Love this! @fashionsmaven has 7 reasons she loves Sephora:

Umm, that's from SEPHORA! Sephora read my blog and Tweeted about it! 16,000+ people saw that! Pretty cool, huh? I've gained some Twitter followers thanks to the exposure, and I've had over 300 hits on the blog today! That's... a lot more than usual :)

So thank you, Sephora! And thanks to everyone who is reading, commenting, following me on Twitter, etc. I'm so excited about it! :)

Sephora is hands down my favorite place to buy makeup. There is SO much to choose from (13,000 products and more than 200 brands!) it's impossible to leave without finding exactly what you need. Here are some other reasons I love Sephora:

Beauty Insider Program
The Beauty Insider Program is free to join. For every dollar you spend at Sephora, you earn a point. You can then redeem your points for gifts! When your Beauty Bank gets to 100 points you can get a deluxe sample of a product. There are always several to choose from. You can also wait until your Beauty Bank gets to 500 points and get a full sized product of whatever is being offered. Also, you get a gift during your birthday month!

V.I.B. (Very Important Beauty) Insider

If you spend $350 at Sephora and in a calender year, you automatically become a VIB. This gets you a welcome offer of 10% off a purchase, invites to exclusive events, a special holiday gift card (the more you spend the bigger it is!), and exclusive promotions and freebies.

Free Shipping, Free Samples, Free Returns at

Free stuff. Self explanatory.

Sale Item At Checkout

On, when you go to checkout there is an item offered to you at a reduced price. I think it changes weekly. It's always a great product though.

Sephora Favorites
Each limited-edition set features deluxe samples of various products—all for $40 or less!—and the options are endless. There are mascara sets, lip sets, fragrance sets, etc. Great way to try out lots of new products at once!

Clearly, there are many reasons to love Sephora. The only thing I don't love is the damage it does to my bank account...

Deal of the Day

Clearly, I love me some fashion magazines. I always have a huge pile of them sitting next to me. Subscribing to them will save you a ton off the cover price, and after you're a subscriber you usually get even better deals. The magazine business has clearly taken a hit with the current economic climate and because of that, there are some awesome deals to be had. Tonight I scooped up some great prices at Amazon. Here they are:

One year of InStyle for $5. Amazing! This is Amazon's Magazine Steal of the Week so it will expire this Saturday at 11:59pm. If you're already a subscriber you can renew another year for $5!

Two years of Allure for $12. One year is also $12, so right now you're getting an entire year for free.

One year of Marie Claire for $8, or right now you can do two years for $10.

You can also get a year's worth of my two favorites, Elle ($14 for a year) and Vogue ($18 for a year) for $32 total which is a good deal. Not as awesome as the above deals, but still good. The three I listed come out to $27 which gets you free shipping at Amazon, and then they also took off $5 more as a promotional offer. Five years worth of magazines for $22!
Now, that's fabulous.

Elizabeth and James & The Row

When some people hear Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen they immediately have flashbacks to the 90's and Full House. Those in the fashion world think of something a little different. Mary Kate & Ashley are full-fledged fashion designers with two fashion lines - The Row, named after Savile Row in London, the more upscale of the two and Elizabeth and James, named after their siblings, coming in at a more affordable price.

Elizabeth and James is a mixture of classic pieces with a little bohemian and romantic influences tossed in. Here are some of my faves:

Feather Earrings

Tattered Elizabeth Blazer

Foliage Dress

Feather Across the Hand Ring

Alexandra Blouse

Fall Trench

Reese Draped Snake Booties

Maltese Small Ring

Lola Open Toe Ruffle Pumps

Dandy Vest

School Boy Shirt II

Roselyn Dress

Risky Ruffle Pumps

Margo Dress

Great stuff! You can purchase Elizabeth and James at one of my faves, Shopbop.

5 Minute Hair

Ok, so we've covered The Uniform and the 5 Minute Face. What's left? 5 minute hair :) Ok, so I can't REALLY promise a time limit on this because unlike the 5 Minute Face, everyone's hair is different obviously. But I still have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve.

Tip #1

Bangs/Side Swept Bangs/Long Layers in Front

Perfect example here of why this is a good idea. You can easily sweep the rest of your hair up in a ponytail, messy bun, whatever and leave the bangs out. It's much less hair to style but it'll still LOOK done. That's what easy hair is all about!

Tip #2
Dry Shampoo

Guess what - unless you have really short or really oily hair, you don't have to wash it everyday. You probably don't even have to wash it every other day. Dry shampoo can be a life saver if you wake up late and don't have time to shower. Just sprinkle it on, rub it in, and it'll soak up all the oil and yuckiness in your hair.

Tip #3
Hair Accessories

Headbands, scarves, wraps, even detailed ponytail holders are your best friend if you're having a bad hair day. Just slip one on and you'll instantly look more polished and put together. There are limitless possibilities at every price point. I love looking everywhere from Target to Urban Outfitters to J. Crew. Hair accessories are also an easy way to add a playful pop to a basic outfit.

Just because you're short on time, don't feel like you have to throw your hair in a ponytail so you'll make it out the door in time. Spend just a few minutes using these tips and no one will know that you didn't spend any time on your hair!

5 Minute Face

Ok, so this is a follow-up to my last post. We all have days where we don't have tons of time to get ready, but it's still no excuse to not make an effort. You just have to have a plan in place and that goes for hair and make-up just like it goes for clothes. We'll start with make-up.

The 5 Minute Face is a concept pioneered by Carmindy of What Not To Wear fame. The name basically explains it. All you do is figure out what products, tips, and tricks to use in order to get your face done in 5 minutes. For an everyday look this is a breeze. Obviously you probably need more than 5 minutes if you're going to an event or out on a date or something.
If you've got some color on your face, I say skip the foundation entirely. If you don't feel comfortable going bare-faced do a tinted moisturizer.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
The more expensive of the 2 I'm showing, but certainly worth the price.

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
Great and it has SPF!
Time to apply: 1 minute

Next is concealer, or an illuminating pen.
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
This is a little pricey, but I literally use ONE click a day. That covers under eye circles, corners of my eyes, underneath my brows, sides of my nose, and my chin. It's a concealer/illuminating pen in one. Basically it covers up things and bounces light off so it's SO fabulous on your face. LOVE this.

Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage
This is 2 different colors - one to match the skin's depth of color and one to match the skins undertone. Wonderful concealer!
Time to apply: 30 seconds

NARS Blush
Probably the best blush on the market. Tops Best Of lists year after years both with professionals and everyday women. Very sheer, buildable coverage in a wide range of colors. Can't say enough good things about this blush! Oh yeah, and it lasts forever.
Time to apply: 30 seconds

Dior DiorShow Mascara
If you're going to splurge on mascara, DiorShow is the way to go. It's great for giving you nice, full lashes but it IS a splurge. While I do love it...

CoverGirl Lash Blast
This stuff works JUST as good (if not better...) and is a 1/4 of the price. You can't beat that.
Time to apply: 1 minute (counting curling your lashes)

Ok, so we're up to 3 minutes. I say spend the other 2 on your eyes then put on lipgloss in the car right before you go in wherever you're going :) (But NOT while you're driving! I don't advocate that.)

NARS Duo Eyeshadow
NARS duo in All About Eve (not pictured) is one of my favorites. It comes in 2 complimentary colors - one for an all over wash and one for under your brows. You can't get any simpler than that.
Time to apply: 1 minute

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes
Once you line your eyes with this, you have about 10 seconds to smudge it either into your eyeline or to make a messy, smoky look and then it is SET. Like, it won't budge. Probably for at least 24 hrs. (Yes, I've slept in it. Bad, I know.) Great, great stuff.
Time to apply: 1 minute

Ok, so other than lips you're done! There are so many, many, many wonderful lipsticks and lipglosses out there but some of my personal favorites are Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick, MAC Lipstick, MAC Lipglass, and Laura Mercier Lip Glace. So many different colors to choose from in all of those it would be impossible to list them all!

Next up: Quick-fix hair, which will complete the trio on how to get ready fast!
