Halloween Help!

Every year our friends Katie and Cullen have a big Halloween party where you have to dress up (duh, it's a Halloween party!). It's like pulling teeth to get Jared to cooperate, but miraculously I have figured out something for him and he agreed to it. Not going to mention that right now, but no worries, it will be revealed after the party. Now I'm having a little trouble with my costume. A warning: if Katie or Cullen or anyone else who is going to be at the party are reading - stop! (I have no idea if that's even a concern. I'm sure that warning will really do the trick, though. Anyway.)

Ok, so I saw this and was immediately inspired:
I KNOW, RIGHT?!
Here are more pictures I found for inspiration:

Apparently Audrina did it a couple of years ago for Halloween:

So I think the makeup and accessories I could handle. It's more the costume part that's the problem. If you look up peacock costume, you get a bunch of tacky ridiculousness so that's out. If I could find a more modest (you know, longer and... better) version of the dress Audrina is wearing I'd wear something like that, but I'll never find something reasonably priced. So what does that leave? Just wear something with that color scheme and maybe accent with a few feathers? Then it's more of a peacock inspired look, but even if you look at Audrina I guess that's what she did, right?

Help :(

Why don't you do a peacock version of a fairy? I'm picturing instead of wings, a full spread of peacock feathers on your back. I'm thinking you could do something like what Drew Barrymore wore in Ever After, only using darker colors and full on peacock makeup! Would be so pretty! You know if we lived close, I'd totally hook you up! ;)

Well, I think if you do your makeup and hair SUPER peacocky then you can dress more in the tones of peacock- plum dress, teal dress??? That way your makeup and hair can serve as the peacock feathers! Also, may I suggest opera gloves :)

I love the idea of being a peacock -- so colorful! I was a comet last year (aka an excuse to wear all-over sparkles) and this year my roommate and I are going to be Ernie and Bert!

I was a peacock last halloween! It was very expensive trying to purchase all the feathers, and they sold out so fast! So if you do decide, make sure you start early!

Gorgeous! I love the feathered lashes.

What about a pretty blue or green dress with a peacock feather fan, clutch and hairclip? Just keep it to the accessories and wear the dress again?

maybe go to a store thats super cheap and look for a dress in one of the peacock colours and then go to a craft store and buy a crapload of feathers and hot glue gun them on to the dress. you can do a DIY post after :)

i'm about to post about that Sephora makeup!

i think doing a peacock inspired look is perfect actually. wear the colors and get the feathers...it won't be tacky and it'll be a creative costume.

i've seen some dresses with peacock designs in a vintage store. so maybe checking out a vintage store might help? and if not, what you said about wearing the colors would be just fine. good luck! :D

I saw a peacock costume once and the girl was wearing all black (just a LBD) & somehow had attached a block of Styrofoam to the lower back with the peacock feathers sticking out up over her head - more like the traditional peacock look, it was very cool!

That's such a pretty look. I'm inspired as well. Errrrm, I suppose you could wear shiny greens/browns and a black feathered/frilled skirt (which shouldn't be too hard to find).

ooooh well i think you're on the right track with these amazing makeup ideas!

i agree with everyone who says a dress in a "peacock color" is probably the way to go. that way the dramatic make up will stand out even more.

either way tho, awesome costume idea!

Everyone has such great ideas! I think a teal colored dress with some fabulous feathers will do the trick, and most people will be so amazed by your fabulous makeup that you won't have to worry too much about the dress!

i think this will be all about your hair. i did a greek goddess a couple of years ago where i went to michaels (craft store if you dont know it lol) and bought gold fabric leaves from their fake floral department. I used a million bobby pins & did a really cute updo with tons of gold fabric leaves. it was awesome! if i were you i would do the same with peacock feathers. then just do some fierce eye make up (which i know you totally already have covered lol) and wear a turqoiuse dress or something. i love costumes that are not like cheesy & obvious but maybe more abstract. which is what i think this will be!

Rachel said...

ps last year i was a champagne bottle; another updo. i bought clear marbles & glued them to hairclips to look like piles of bubbles. also glued gold round bulb xmas ornaments (which were already on sale at michaels) to hairclips to look like gold bubbles. updos are awesome for integrating themes into costumes!

Amazing inspiration... So beautiful. I'd go full on with the make up and hair... go wild with the feathers into some kind of afro! Then black with a few coloured accents from the neck down. Perfect.

Hope you had an awesome weekend.

I was a peacock one year in college for a party. Mine was kind of like Audrina's. I just glued a bunch of peacock feathers on a body suit and it was actually super cute!

I made a peacock costume for Halloween this year and it turned out amazing! I went to a second hand store and bought a black boustier and skirt that I found for all under $10 and then I just went to my local craft store and bought blue and purple feathers as well as peacock feather. I covered the bustier in blue feathers making sure the feathers hung over the edge to cover part of the skirt, left the skirt back and accented the bust area with a bunch of peacock and some less expensive Pheasant feathers. To top off the look I made a feather hair piece, made a small tail with some left over peacock feathers and decorated the back of a black pair of peep toes with purple feathers. All in all everything cost me less than $30.00 which is a pretty good deal for a costume. Hope that helps with ideas!
