Happy New Year!

all images via weheartit

It's cliche, but I can't believe another year is coming to an end. Our plans are pretty low key for tonight - staying in, drinking champagne, watching the ball drop. What about you? Happy New Year everyone - let's make 2011 amazing :)

Goodbye, 2010.

I can't believe 2010 is almost over. Tell me one thing you're looking forward to in the New Year. On a random note, how am I almost at 300 followers on this blog with Google? Absolutely insane. Thank you to each and every one of you who is reading and following!

Jeweled Necklace

For Christmas, Coco (my parents dog) gave me this:
American Eagle $22.50 (Buy 1, Get 1 50% off)

Yes, the dog gives presents, Hey. she likes sparkly things. Anyway, that's not the point. The point is, it's gorgeous. And with the deal it's even better right now. Very nice, right? Oh wait...

J. Crew regular $98, on sale for $49.99

Now I LOVE J. Crew (I might have already made a huge after Christmas order...) but come on, even with the sale price this is a no-brainer, right?

I thought so.

New Stila Travel Palette

I know I've mentioned it once or twice, but Stila has done it again:
A Sephora exclusive, Stila has released the Adventurous in Aspen Travel Palette. Now I thought there were just 5, but this is #6 - it is exclusive to Sephora though.

What it is:
A Sephora-exclusive palette that features four award-winning Stila eyeshadows plus one Convertible Color.

It has four trend-setting shades: Snow Angel (shimmering heather gray), Icicles (blue), Glisten (shimmering gold), and Ajax (black with gold sparkle). The palette also includes Convertible Color in Rosy, a rose-pink shade that's perfect for creating a natural winter glow.

This set contains:

Like the other Travel Palettes, this is $10. Absolutely insane deal! Get this one at Sephora!

Christmas Gifts

Anyone still celebrating Christmas? We went to Jared's grandparents yesterday, and then there's still more today. We have the Never Ending Christmas, but anyway. Since we're still Christmasing (aka Jared is off work, my sister is in town, my house is wrecked and I have lots of after Christmas shopping to do - you understand, I'm sure) posting will probably be light this week. In the meantime, what was your favorite gift under the tree this year? Let me know then go take a nap for me because I'm exhausted.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! (a day early)
I hope you're all having a fabulous time with your loved ones, celebrating and enjoying whatever you believe in.

Don't forget all the diamonds and pearls never could fix the poor little rich girls...

Rufus Wainwright  - Spotlight on Christmas
People love and people hate
People go and people wait
But, don't forget Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Once were a family poor but rich in hope, yeah

This isn't really about Christmas, or religion, or personal beliefs, or anything like that. It's just about this time of year, and no matter what you believe pertaining to any of that, this song is full of good reminders. Reminders to slow down, appreciate, remember what you have, and focus on the good things. We could all stand to do that sometimes. I hope you're enjoying this week, however you're spending it.

Aprons & Cooking & Last Minute Gifts - Oh my...

It's no secret I need some cooking help. I even convinced myself an apron was what I needed. Well, with the holidays somehow I became even more convinced of this idea. If you follow me on Twitter you already know, but I made the apron dream come true:

Highland Fling Apron

Anthrolpologie, as I already knew, had tons of cute aprons to choose from. The hard part was picking one, but this was my favorite so I got it. Yay!

So I never did any gift guides, but I did pick up a couple of things last week at Target, and since I think they'd make good last minute gifts, I figured I'd share:

E.L.F. Liquid Eyeliner $3.00
There are several ELF gift sets at Target right now. One is a set of 3 eyeliners, and since it's ELF its - $3. (ELF is $1 a piece. Yeah. Seriously.) Bonus - the little sets are packaged cute, too.

Sonia Kashuk "Glitters Glows" Eye Palette $14.99
This is advertised as 3 shadows and 3 liners, but they're all powder so really they can all be eyeshadow if you ask me. Anyway, super cute, good quality, good price, and really cute sparkly packaging. Love this!

Ok, so there's a couple of last minute gifts or stocking stuffers if you need ideas. I picked these up for me though. When I was out looking for stocking stuffers. For Jared. Which I didn't get. Is that irony? Maybe.
Merry Christmas!

Christmas Card Photo Shoot

My Dad, Mom, Abby, Me, Jared, August & Coco
This was the winner for the 2010 Christmas card. 5 people and 2 dogs = hard to get a picture with everyone looking and smiling, but I think it went ok. As noted, absolutely NONE of the cute elements of my outfit are visible. Oh well. Maybe next year?

Me, my Mom, Abby, Coco

I couldn't let Christmas pass without showcasing the sparkly Santa hats, could I? No, I couldn't. And today apologies to both my Mom and sister if they didn't want everyone to see them in the Santa hats. Before the holiday season is over, maybe I'll embarrass my whole family!

Katie Loves Santa

Me, my Mom & Santa - 1984

I was going make some sort of "Bad Santa" pun in the title, but my Mom e-mailed this to me as "Katie Loves Santa" which I thought was pretty hilarious, so there you go. Anyway, the picture is pretty self-explanatory. I was almost 2 years old. My Mom was determined I was getting a picture taken with Santa. I pitched a fit. She got in the picture to try and calm me down. Didn't work. She still paid for the picture. I'm sure she was embarrassed at the time, but it's my favorite Santa picture. I think it's hilarious and if we ever have kids and they take a bad Santa pic, I'm turning it into a Christmas card and sending it out. (No one's ever going to let me have kids, are they? Didn't think so.) Somehow either the scanning or my parents iPhoto has edited this I think because if you see the picture in person my face matches the red in the dress. Fashion conscious at a young age, people.

PS - If you read this, sorry about putting you on the blog, Mom. But it's funny!

Christmas Movies

I have two favorite Christmas movies. Obviously by the picture, one is A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can say it's a movie for kids but I'll argue with you. My other favorite? Christmas Vacation. It will never stop being hilarious to me!

What's your favorite Christmas movie?

What I'm Loving...

Happy Friday! No one's having any holiday meltdowns, are they? Deep breaths, everyone.
Here's what I'm loving:

Essie Midnight Cami
I showed this in my latest What I'm Wearing... post. SUCH a gorgeous color. If you've used OPI's Russian Navy, this is very close. A deep blue with sparkles = the perfect December color if you ask me.

Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate
If you've tried this at Starbucks, you understand my obsession. So insanely delicious. Ok, so if that's not good enough, it turns out you can buy it and make it at home. I won't lie, it's not quite as good as getting it at Starbucks but come on, that's pretty good, right? (It is.)

Christmas Classics
I bought this set at Target recently for 2 reasons - Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty. How old am I again? Oh who cares. They ARE classics.

The Decemberists - Angel, Won't You Call Me?
The Decemberists. A Christmas song. Pretty much perfect.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Easy Blue Eye Makeup Look

Ok, as promised, here's a post on how I did the blue eye makeup in yesterday's post. It really is easy! Here we go:

Products used:
NYX eyeshadow in Atlantic
Sephora eyeshadow in Aspen Summit
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in Mat Black 0L

Besides being super easy, this is easy to recreate with plenty of other products. First I used the NYX Black Bean as a base, but any black eyeliner or dark base would work. I blended it out with my fingers and a blending brush. Next I applied the Atlantic eyeshadow on the lid and used the blending brush again to fade it up into my crease. I applied Aspen Summit under the brow bone and in the inner corner. Using a pencil brush I applied Atlanta under my lash line. Eyeliner on my waterline, mascara (I used my Chanel Inimitable), and that was it! So quick and easy!

Great for this time of year, don't you think?

What I'm Wearing...

Sweater - Express
Jeans - Old Navy
Earrings - Express (which I forgot to take a detail picture of, but the same ones I wore here)
Ring - Express
Shoes - Express (better detail picture in my Black Friday Shopping post)
Nail polish - Essie Midnight Cami and Sephora by OPI Flurry Up as a topcoat on my ring fingers

I don't usually wear so much from one store at the same time, but I've gotten a lot from Express lately (a lot from my online Black Frday shopping) so I was eager to wear a lot of it and see how it all worked together. Have to say, I'm really loving it. My nails, shoes, and eye makeup all were blue, and I'm obsessed with the color. I wish my nails showed up better, the silver topcoat I have on my ring fingers is so gorgeous against the Essie color. It's my new favorite nail combo. The eye look was super easy and perfect, I think, for all the upcoming holiday activities so I'll do another post on that with all the details! Geez, it's almost Christmas, isn't it?!
(These were taken while the stockings were being monogrammed. Obviously, they're back up now!)

What's In My House (for Christmas)... Outside

Today is the last What's In My House (for Christmas)... post. Since it's outside I guess What's In My House... isn't appropriate but hey, I have a theme going. I never showed the outside when I did What's In My House... before, so there's no older post to link. Last one! Aren't you a little sad? Me too.
The front of the house. Crooked. Because I was blinded by the sun.
A little better. The spotlights shine on the window wreaths, the 2nd tree is in the double window, and the porch light shows the main wreath. I didn't take a picture at night because it doesn't show up that great on my camera.
There's lights on the mailbox, too!
Wreath is from Target and the doormat is from Pier 1.
We bought these wreaths, wired non-breakable ornaments from Target to them, and attached bows my mother-in-law made.
There's really not much in the back, just another wreath and doormat.
Wreath is from Michael's.
Doormat is from Pier 1.

That's it for the outdoor decorations and the end of the What's In My House (for Christmas)...! Hope you enjoyed it :)

What's In My House (for Christmas)... Guest Bedroom, Guest Bathroom

More What's In My House (for Christmas)...! Today is the guest bedroom and bathroom. Here is the post from the original series, which also shows the office as well. There's no Christmas decorations in there, though. Ok, here we go!

We had to move the furniture around to make room for the 2nd tree. That window faces the front of the house which is why we wanted a tree there.
Snowmen and the sparkly Santa hat!
The stocking holders are from Target. These are our old stockings but like I've already shown we got new ones this year.
Since we added the 2nd tree, the star, tree skirt, and ornaments are all what we used to have on the living room. There are some special ones just like on the other tree:
From our 1st anniversary trip to Chicago
From Gatlinburg
My Grinch ornament :)
One of my Rudolph ornaments. The nose lights up!
And the other one.
Decorating the bathroom was pretty simple...
Soap holder
Hand towel
More towels. All from Target. Actually this is Version 2.0 of Christmas'ing the guest bathroom. Jared picked out some stuff and it was - bad. Very bad. Lots of clashing. So I went and bought this stuff instead. And he's not allowed to buy stuff for the house. Ever. Again. Except food. And maybe Kleenex.

Tomorrow I'll be finishing up with our outdoor decorations!
