Travel Tips

Travel Tips
As I've mentioned, I'm out of town right now so I thought I'd mention a few easy traveling tips I've thought of in the last few days!
  • Use sites like hotels.com and cheaptickets.com to book things. Try to find even better deals using retailmenot.com for coupon codes. Using this combination sometimes you can get amazing deals!
  • See what kinds of programs your favorite sites and hotels have to offer. A lot of times it's free to sign up and you can get everything from free Wi-Fi in your hotel (like we're getting now), a night free at a hotel every so often, or frequent flier miles. Definitely worth looking into, especially if it's free!
  • I'm sure everyone knows to pack travel sizes of toiletries to save on space, but using samples or the items you get when you receive a gift with purchase at a cosmetics counter are also fabulous for traveling. They're the perfect size and you can pack tons of different things to try out while you're on vacation! Don't forget to try out the toiletries the hotel leaves you, too. You might be surprised how much you like them!
  • Forget something? (We all do.) First, see if it's in the room. Most hotels leave everything from a hair dryer to an iron already in the room. If it's something that not in the room, call down to the front desk. Most hotels have a list of things they keep on hand for their guests.
  • Run out of something? Check to see if you brought something you can use as a replacement. Conditioner can be used as shaving gel, eye cream makes a decent moisturizer in a pinch (learned that the other night), you can put toothpaste on a breakout - the list goes on and on.
  • I'm not going to say 'Don't over-pack!' because that's crazy talk. I will say try to pack things in the same color family, pack versatile items, and pack things you can layer or use with more than one outfit. This at least stretches how many outfits you can make out of a certain number of items.
These are just a few tips, but obviously you can't plan for everything. Like, say you arrive in Florida on Friday night, and Saturday morning your sister has a breakdown and decides she can't live in the new apartment she moved into on Tuesday. Well then you spend Saturday afternoon out in a mad dash to sign her a lease on a new apartment and Saturday evening frantically using the free Wi-Fi you got from your hotel reward you signed up for to change your flight and extend your hotel stay for 4 more nights since she's now moving (again) on Thursday and you'd planned to leave on Tuesday. WHEW. No, that's not hypothetical. That's where we are! And no, I didn't pack enough. But hey, you make do. And you stay up late on Sunday to try and schedule some blog posts. So, this week will be a little crazy, and I apologize, but I'm doing the best I can!

Don't forget to enter my 100 Follower Giveaway! You have until tomorrow night!

What I'm Loving...

Happy Friday! I should be packing for our trip because, well, I haven't even started yet. I did laundry though. That counts, right? Right. Moving on...
Here's what I'm loving:

Meet Coco, my parent's dog. Actually, she was my dog but I got her when I was living with them, then I got married and moved and Coco decided she wanted to stay with my Mom and... you know, it's a long story. She lives with my parents though and is basically my Mom's dog. (You know how some dogs have a person? Yeah. My Mom is Coco's person.) My parents are down helping my sister move in her new apartment so Coco has been staying with us since Monday. I love her pieces but she's a tiny bit spoiled. And needy. And has no problem letting you know exactly what she wants. Like, she'll paw at you until you pet her and if you stop and she wasn't done yet she'll keep nosing your hand until you pet her some more. Pretty smart, actually. She HAS to be by someone at all times so she's been my little shadow all week. Luckily I love her. Which is why she's on the list!

California Pizza Kitchen Frozen Pizza
Ok, I know it's bad to like frozen foods but everyone eats them SOMETIMES. I love me some CPK so I was quite happy to start finding these in our grocery store. They're a little more expensive than some other brands, but they do go on sale and I think sometimes our store does Buy 1 Get 1 which is a good deal. Love them and they're a quick, easy fix on nights where you don't want to spend a lot of time making dinner (or as I call that - every night.)

Essie Demure Vixen
This is the only polish I got from the Essie Summer Collection 2010 and I'm so happy I did. I wasn't sure I loved it in the store, but it caught my eye and since it's in a color family I love I figured I couldn't go wrong. Well, I absolutely love it now that I've worn it. Essie describes it as a "iridescent cocoa mauve" but I'm not sure that description does it justice. Temptalia describes it as "a lightened mauve with pale purple shimmer. It’s a very soft, pretty color. The shimmer is incredibly subtle, but it’s there". That's a much better description :) Anyway, it's pretty, it's unique but not in a way that overly stands out, and even though it's in the summer collection, to me it's a color you can wear year round so I'm loving it even more. AND I love the name! So want the job of naming nail polishes.

Lilith Fair
10+ years ago, Sarah McLachlan started an all female music festival. Well, this year it's back and it's actually coming to Birmingham! If you follow me on Twitter, you know I've already bought my tickets. SO. EXCITED. Now the lineup in the 90's was basically my entire CD collection - Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, etc. Definitely a little sad I missed that, but the show we're going to in August has Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Brandi Carlile, and Sia among others. Incredible!

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum - Before and After Pictures

L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum

Because it's been requested multiple times now, here is a final wrap up with pictures of the L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum. Well, mostly pictures. I wrote about the serum here, did an initial review after a month here, and did a wrap-up in my latest What I'm Loving... post. On with the pictures:

Before Pictures:

One Month Pictures:

Two Month Pictures:
Without Mascara
With Mascara:

My lashes seem a little longer, better conditioned, and my mascara is making a more noticeable difference than it did before. Given that this is reasonably cheap, lasts a long time, and I've had no negative side effects - it gets a thumbs up from me!

Vacation... (I'm not going to sing the song)

I think about a week ago I pretty much impulsively decided that we needed to go see my sister. See, she lives in Jacksonville, FL which is 8 hours away from us so it's not a short drive. And I hate long car rides. And my husband is kind of crazed with work right now so he can only get away for a few days. In the past we've stayed with her when we visited because she was in a spacious 3 bedroom apartment (with roommates). Well, the roommate are gone and she's moving this week to a (I'm sure quite nice but considerably smaller) 1 bedroom apartment. There was only one thing to do...

...book a plane ticket and a hotel.

You know what that means. VACATION TIME. I love vacations. I love hotels. I'll go stay in a hotel in the town we live in. (I've done it. Recommend it. You should do it, too.) I love the little mini bottles of stuff they give you. I love all the little notepads and pens they leave around the room. I love the smell. I love getting Starbucks in the airport while I wait for my bags. I love shopping in a new city (shocker). I love finding new restaurants. I COULD GO ON AND ON. Let's look at some pictures.

Here's where we're staying:

And here, from what I've found is Jacksonville's best shopping:
That really doesn't even begin to cover it, but I can't find pictures to do it justice. It's the St. Johns Town Center and it's massive and amazing and I love it.

So that's what I'm looking forward to! Do you like to travel? What do you love about vacations? Got any travel tips you want to share? Let me know :)

What I'm Loving...

It's Friday! Anyone have fun plans for the weekend? I lead a boring life (like you don't already know that), so leave a comment telling me what excitement you have planned for the next couple of days so I can live vicariously through you. I mean that in the least creepy way possible.
Yeah I should just stop.
Here's what I'm loving:

L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum
I've already done 2 posts on this before (here and here) but I promised a follow up after I'd used it for 8 weeks. Well, I don't really think that necessitates a whole other post, but I do still really love the stuff, so it's getting mentioned here. Nothing has changed, so refer to my other posts if you want my review on it. I will say this - I saw virtually no change after the 4-5 week mark, so that's really my only update. After about a month you're going to get your maximum growth potential, but I'm still impressed. Good stuff. It goes on sale. Find yourself a good deal.

B.O.B. featuring Hayley Williams - Airplanes
I'm OBSESSED with this song. Love it. LOVE IT. What's a little weird though is that the original version didn't catch my attention - this YouTube cover did. And this one. And this one. Completely different, right?! Listen to the lyrics! Great, great song.

Aveda Color Conserve Line
I got my hair cut and colored yesterday, and I'm pretty positive this is the shampoo and conditioner my hair stylist (who is also one of my best friends) used. Like every single Aveda product I've ever used, it's amazing, smells great, and my hair feels healthy. Sold. Don't know why I didn't buy it. Plan on doing so in the near future.

100+(!) Followers
Because you all are AMAZING, I'm over 100 followers which means giveaway next week! So of course I love that. Don't you? You should. Be sure you're following so you can win! Yay!

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Question Time!

Bren at Chasing Beauty tagged me to answer a few questions!

Favorite designer?
Chanel. I could give a very long-winded complex answer and analysis to this question, but the short version is Chanel. I have to go with Coco Chanel, but a huge, huge amount of respect to Karl Lagerfeld who I think is an absolute genius. I just absolutely love everything the Chanel label signifies. I could go on about this for awhile. This is not the only appearance Chanel will likely make on here...

What's your dream bag?
And welcome to Chanel's 2nd appearance haha. I did a whole post on this one time, this bag is the dream, the legend, what I pin my hopes and aspirations on.... ok, I'm getting carried away but I want it. I want it bad.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Cookies and cream! No question. I REALLY prefer to have it "homemade" which to me means taking vanilla ice cream and crumbling up some Oreos on top of it myself. Don't come between me and my ice cream. That's just a fair warning.

Lip gloss or lip stick?
Now this is tough for me because I LOVE them both, but lately I would have to say lipstick because the right one is like having the perfect combination of lipstick and lip gloss. A YSL Rouge Volupte, or a MAC in the right finish like Creme d'Nude is all you need! Not that I don't usually layer a gloss on top, but... you don't HAVE to.

If you could go anywhere for a week long vacation, where would you go?
I don't have a specific destination in mind, but I would just like to go a tropical island - any will do - stay in a nice resort, and relax for a week. That. would. be. incredible. Hawaii is on my list. I'll take suggestions if you have an amazing vacation you'd like to tell me about!

Who is your celebrity crush?
Bradley Cooper! Do I need to explain? What's hilarious is that somehow this has become known and I got asked a hilariously inappropriate question about him on my formspring. HILARIOUS.

What's your "can't miss" TV show?
My newest favorite as many of you know is Glee. Love it! I have a bunch of episodes I've missed so I'm looking forward to catching up on it over the summer. If you love to randomly sing as much as I do, this is a can't miss show. For reals.

Who's your style icon?
I have a lot, but one of them would be Nicole Richie for several reasons. She has a very distinct sense of style, she's made plenty of fashion mistakes, and she seems to take her design career seriously. I love both House of Harlow and Winter Kate, her lines. I think there are a lot of celebrities that will just slap their name on something and she hasn't appeared to do that which I respect. As I've mentioned before, I own several House of Harlow pieces and I find them to be well made and affordable. Love her!

That was fun! Ok, here are a few questions that I've come up with:
1. What's your favorite perfume?
2. What's your favorite song lyric?
3. Name a city/state/place where you'd love to live but never have.
4. What's the best birthday you ever had?
5. Do you have a signature dish or meal that you make?

I seriously want EVERYONE to answer, so I'm not tagging people :) If you don't want to put these in a blog post, please answer in the comments!

Um, you guys are amazing. I was at 89 followers when I wrote yesterdays post, and as I'm finishing this one I've hit 100! What?! That's crazy! Will head out today and hopefully pick up the giveaway prize - I've gotten some great suggestions, please keep them coming! The whole point is to giveaway something that you guys want! Also, please follow (over to the right with Google Friend Connect) if you're not already and you want to enter because, um, that'll pretty much be the only requirement, ha. Giveaway next week, hopefully? Yay!

Love you guys!

Almost at 100?!

I'm almost at 100 followers!
Ok, I'm at like, 89 so there's still a little way to go - but I'm almost there. Right? Right.
So a couple of things: 1) if you're not following me already on Google Friend Connect (over to the right), please do so because you'll need to do that to enter the giveaway I'm going to have and 2) uh, I'm totally going to have a giveaway when I hit 100 followers, so please give me any ideas you have for what you want me to give away :)

That's all! Hope everyone is having a good week :)
