All-Time Favorite Mascaras

When I did my last mascara review, it was requested that I do a post on my all-time favorite mascaras. I've probably mentioned all of these at various points, but it's good to have one post where they're all in one place. So here you go:

Absolute Favorite Mascara
Chanel Inimitable
This is the only mascara I've used that actually does multiple things in one. It lengthen, volumizes, and separates. I don't care that it's expensive. I've never seen a mascara do this much in a single coat so I will gladly continue to repurchase it.

Absolute Favorite Lash Product
DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum
I did a series of reviews on L'Oreal's Lash Boosting Serum and I was perfectly happy with the results. L'Oreal's product, like Latisse and other serums, works to lengthen your lashes over time. That's fine, and Dior's serum does that as well, but the key difference is that you can apply it before your mascara and it provides instant results. I like instant. So I love the Dior.

Honorable Mentions (aka I really, really love these too)
Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash
This is another good all in one mascara. You get lengthening and volumizing in one, and it has a great, deep pigment to it that gives your lashes a rich look.

Dior DiorShow Extase
I don't love DiorShow (it's fine, just not worth the price). I don't love DiorShow Iconic (waste of money, skip that one entirely). After 2 strikeouts, I'm not sure why I purchased another DiorShow but Extase is an exception. It's good for volumizing and paired with Smoky Lash? Absolutely amazing.

CoverGirl L
ashblast Volume
I've tried all the Lashblast mascaras and the original (Lashblash Volume) is hands down the best. Amazing for both volumizing and separating.

L'Oreal Voluminous
As I've mentioned, my favorite of all the L'Oreal mascaras I've tried. I've gone to this countless times for years now and will continue to do so.

The blessing and curse of mascaras is that they have a short shelf life so if you don't know which one to pick, you get plenty of opportunities to try them out. Lashes are like anything else - everyone's are different so keep trying, you'll find one that's perfect for you! But I imagine there's at least one in here you would love :)

Mascara is the one makeup item I've been thinking of adding to my make up regimen. Lipstuff. Mascara. I have a problem with smearing even waterproof kind :( I've used Clarins waterproofer which helps prevent smearing but it weighs down my lashes so the curl doesn't keep well. I have stick straight lashes and crazy curly hair on my head. Why is that?

I forgot to ask if you have suggestions/recommendations for waterproof mascara. And, thank you for the review!

I interned with Dior so I admittedly have a huge bias -- but I love, LOVE DiorShow Unlimited. It makes lashes illegal. I do really want to try that Chanel mascara, though!

Love all of these (especially the last one, drugstore find extraordinaire!) minus the lash blast. I know everyone is obsessed with it but to me, it's been nothing but horrible! my fave drugstore is the last one you picked and high-end is Dior Blackout.

Ooooh I wanna try the Dior one now too...but have to restrict myself until I'm in a better place mentally so I don't poke myself in the eye - or any of the crazy people who try to rent my place. Just saying.

I really need to clean out all my old mascaras. I tend to 'ignore' the shelf life. Not good. Ok...today. Promise.

I have never used any of those mascaras before. my two favorites are BadGal lash by benefit and clinique lash blaster luminous eyes. My eyes are so sensitive that I have to change my mascara every month or more often I hate it, because I spend so much on one.

I am obsessed with mascaras and own SOOO many before finding the one I am insanely obsessed with. I LOVE Loreal Collagen in Blackest black. I don't know if it is new and I really don't know how I found it...but it is AMAZING. I also sometimes use Loreal Telescopic with it to give extra length. I used to be very into Dior, but I realized I get the same result with Loreal, so I stopped. But my fav probably was Dior Blackout. I also thought that Lancome Hypnose Drama was fabulous too (I still use it sometimes).

But I am sooo happy you put a serum/lash primer on here! I use one everytime :-)

I've been wondering about the Lashblast - good to know the original is the best!

I'm such a peculiar mascara user-I hate the volumizing stuff! I always try to find lengthening with minimal volume, but boy is that tricky!

I do love the clear serum mascaras. I don't generally need mascara on account of my lashes being so dark and will only tend to use it with bright eyeshadows for contrast, but the clear stuff just makes me feel that my eyes are more open and seem more awake.

thanks so much for this post... i am searching for a mascara... i think i might try the chanel first :D

Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate for a second. I always heard that mascara really doesn't make that much of a difference, so I always buy the pink one with the green top because it seems that one is widely used and does the job. But you really think that there is a difference in mascara? I'm intrigued. I have long lashes already, but I always like it when they look full and separated rather than clumped together, so should I really pay more for one? I definitely will try it on your recommendation. I'm such a non-expert in all thinks make-up and beauty products...that's why I never talk about it on my blog! :)

Love your picks! I love Dior Show & MAC's Naughty & Nice one, or whatever it is, with the two brushes in one!

Yay! Thanks so much for this post. There are sooo many different types of mascara out there, I have real trouble picking which one to go with (since they all say they're the best obviously..) PS i had no idea you could buy a lash serum that increases the length of your lashes lol. so cool!!
