It's taken me awhile to put together my arsenal of make-up brushes and figure out what brushes work best, so I figured I'd do a few posts breaking down different brushes and what I use them for. Starting with face brushes:
Large Powder Brush
A large, fluffy brush is good for applying loose powder and, like I've mentioned before, is great for bronzer.
Blush Brush
The right sized blush brush can do double duty for blush and powder. You can try to use it for bronzer too, but a bigger brush will be better if you need to apply with a very light hand.
Stippling Brush
A duo fiber stippling brush can be used to apply cream blush or to blend in foundation.
Foundation Brush
Some people use their fingers to apply and blend their foundation, or you can use a traditional foundation brush. I love using a brush, plus it's less messy.
Concealer Brush
A small synthetic brush is made for concealer, but I also like fluffy brushes as I've mentioned before. I'll go into that in the next post.
If you're just starting out buying brushes, it can be overwhelming (and expensive). Start with cheaper brands like Sonia Kashuk or EcoTools to see which ones you actually use the most. Some you won't need to invest in, and some you'll find the cheaper versions work perfectly fine.

I really need you to peel over and give me a makeup tutorial and then go shopping with me to select some stuff. I'm getting better at brushes, but this brought some good clarification. Go girl!

I need new brushes.
Thanks for this... I always appreciate your make-up advice.
I use many of the same brushes you do :-) i think its a great idea for new users to buy cheap and see what they use before spending alot of money!
I have a lot of these brushes. The concealer brush is pretty helpful on a Monday after a tiring weekend!

I always buy my brushes at Target :)

I love brushes. They work so much better than those stupid sponge things that are provided with some makeup. Ugh. I hate those.

I have so many brushes from Sephora and Sonia Kashuk- I actually like Sonia's better.
the right brushes definitely do wonders when applying makeup... can't wait to see the next post :)
It took me a while too. I am a big believer of foundation brush. : )
I love your brush layout-I'm one of those girls that uses my fingers for everything!
Another fabulous beauty post :) xoxo
Thank goodness, Katie. I'm a disaster when it comes to brushes. I have a Dior blush brush that I use for powder and blush, and I LOVE it... Otherwise, though, it's Sonia Kashuk all the way.

This is great, because I'm totally overwhelmed by all the brushes out there! I buy Sonia Kashuk right now, but I'd like to invest in nicer ones in the future.
