That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown...

At some point every December, the Christmas Craziness kicks in. The Christmas Craziness is the part where it stops being fun and you start getting annoyed and overwhelmed at all the things you "have" to do. This year, I decided I'd just start doing stuff earlier. The music, the "baking" (we've been over how I just melt chocolate and pour it on things since I can't cook), the Christmas movies - just enjoy it all month long instead of "saving" things for later, when life just gets busier as the month goes on. Tuesday night I was making batch of Carrie's peppermint bark, dipping Oreos in chocolate and sprinkles ("baking"), and trying to figure out how on earth to make an apple crisp (ie - make a dent in the 1/2 a bushel of apples Jared brought home - follow me on Twitter if you want to try and keep up with the random madness like 75 apples in my house). It didn't take me too long to reach my usual level of annoyance when trying to do 5 different things at once (this is why the Christmas Craziness happens). I had Charlie Brown Christmas on in the living room, and I overheard the speech Linus gives that ends with "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."
Nothing like a little perspective, right? Even if does come from a cartoon character. Take it where you can get it, take a deep breath, and try and remember what Christmas is really about - because it's not the craziness.

I am so with you on this. I will not let the frenzy take me over. We're getting the tree tomorrow, I'm making a list of gifts to purchase and getting at least 50% done this weekend so I can enjoy the rest as stressfree as possible. Read: watching Charlie Brown multiple x and intermingled with every Christmas show this side of reality. Claymation anyone??

ps-how did the bark work? and ps--i have an amazing apple pie AND apple crisp recipe. say the word and i'll hook you up. super easy. promise.

Admittedly? It's the opposite for me. Just because I'm still in school -- I'm bogged down for the next week with all that I have to do (hooray for 4 15-page papers!) but then it's all Christmastime giggles!

Hehe I just love Linus' speech! Always an important thing to hear every year. :)
I try to enjoy the season too and not get wrapped up in the craziness. I'm already done with my shopping so now I can just enjoy it. And when I go home next weekend I'll be helping my mom with the baking all week :)

Such a nice post to read - it's way to easy to get overwhelmed at this time of year and get all wrapped up in the craziness.

Definitely guilty of saving it for later. In fact the Christmas craziness hasn't hit me yet because I think I haven't quite started yet!

Last night I found out the holiday plan my parents have set into motion–Xmas eve with my mom's family where alcohol is strictly forbidden thanks to a recent health crisis, then Xmas day just the 5 of us, then ANOTHER Xmas on Boxing Day, which means three or four more gifts I hadn't accounted for. After quietly cursing, I remembered something: I haven't seen some of these people in YEARS, and if there's a little running around and no bubbly involved, it'll be worth it.

But it took me a minute.

Charlie Brown is a genius. This is why his Christmas special is so famous. Duh. :)

I hate the overwhelmed feeling that comes with Christmas. As much as I promise it won't happen, it always does.

This year, my family is only giving cards to take the stress off. Which means more time with family, baking, watching movies, and not being stressed about what to get people (hey, times are hard)!

Just when you thought

Naw, I love Charlie Brown Christmas! It sounds like you're having an awesome lead to up to the big day... I'm def a little bit jealous. Not doing much myself apart from putting off Christmas shopping (erk!)

Love this post. I agree. Christmas isn't really about the craziness... but sometimes the craziness can make it more fun. I try to let go of the stresses that a lot of people feel around Christmas and just have fun celebrating with my family.

Also, love the Charlie Brown Christmas special... possibly my favorite, aside from the Polar Express. <3

Happy Holidays dear,

Amen to that sista! This time of year definitely can bring out the stress monster in me, so I just feed her lots of cookies and candy and hot cocoa to shut her up!
