Friend Friday - Fitness & Fashion

Friend Friday
I recently joined the Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group created by Katy over at Modly ChicEvery week Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic
1. Do you keep some kind of fitness routine? Why?
Most of you know I've been getting back into a healthy eating and workout routine with the help of my #shredcrew.

2. Has working out, maybe training for a marathon or something of that nature, helped with your own perception of body image?
Definitely! When you work out you feel better and look better.

3. When you are hitting the gym or just going out for a long walk what do you wear? Is it about functionality or fashion?

It's a combination. You have to wear functional work out clothes but there's no reason they can't be cute, right? I don't have an overwhelming amount of cute workout attire, but I wouldn't be opposed to some Lululemon...

4. Do you feel there is a cultural perception of what you ‘should’ be doing for your own physical fitness?
If there's a cultural perception of what I 'should' be doing in any regard, I highly doubt I'm living up to it.

5.  Dream big… what would be your ultimate fitness goal.
The main goal is to be a healthy weight and just feel better about myself. It wouldn't hurt to look super hot, of course.

Jewelry Armoire

I finally got around to taking pictures of the new jewelry armoire. Yes, this was a birthday present, so I've had it for well over a month now but it took me awhile to get it organized just how I wanted. Anyway, I have, I've taken pictures, so here we go:
An overview to show the new pieces. Remember, I was debating what to do to fit in with our existing bedroom. I went with the Hayworth jewelry armoire and the upholstered bench, both from Pier 1. I'm keeping my vanity because we'e already done some work on it and it's just a good fit for what I need right now. I think everything works well together.
So as you can see, you get a lot of storage. It should be more than adequate for a normal person to fit every piece of jewelry they own in here and have room to spare.
Wasn't easy for me.
It took some serious, serious work to get all my jewelry in here. In the massive, never ending clean out a LOT of jewelry and accessories have gone. Like every stage of this, I've been careful about it and really thought about what I liked, what I wore, and am carefully considering all my purchases now. As you'll see, I'm pretty much at capacity in the armoire now so is this always going to work? I have no idea. It is for now, though.
The top. Over to the left I have rings at the top (mixture of nice ones, costume ones, a couple that were my paternal grandmother's and some vintage ones that belonged to my maternal grandmother). Towards the bottom I have earrings like diamond studs and pearls, diamond hoops, and my sorority pin. On the other side, I have some rows of necklaces (mixture of nicer ones, ones from DogEared, Kevia, House of Harlow, Gorjana, Melinda Maria, and some that belonged to my grandmother). I have my sets of pearls, a set of pearls that were Jared's grandmother's, and some bracelets. Also a couple of pairs of Melinda Maria earrings are in here. It might seem like a hodge podge, but it makes sense to me. There's a lot of sentimental pieces in here now that I think about it. Pieces that belonged to both of my grandmother's and Jared's grandmother. Jewelry I got as presents when I graduated from high school, college, my 18th birthday. Lots of gifts from Jared. A diamond pendant that was made out of a cocktail ring my granddad gave my grandmother.
This is the left door. The top row is long necklaces, the bottom is what was left after organizing both sides. It's somewhat color coordinated.
Chunkier necklaces. Also some vintage ones mixed in that were my grandmother's. I have a lot of my grandmother's jewelry and I love it, but it's obviously old so I'm careful about when I wear it because I don't want it to break. (This is the costume jewelry I'm talking about.)
Top drawer - silver and gold earrings.
2nd drawer - all other earrings :) I came to a rather obvious realization while trying to fit all my earrings into TWO entire drawers and failing miserably - I have a lot of big ass earrings. There's no other way to say it. Even wore them on my wedding day. See the big crystal earrings in the back left towards the top? Yep. I bet you 99% of Southern girls wear pearl studs on their wedding day (and as shown above, I had several pairs of those I could have worn) but not me.
3rd drawer - cocktail rings, then the row to the far right is brooches that belonged to my grandmother. I have another one that I pinned to my wedding veil, but I've left it there.
4th drawer - bracelets. This was difficult. With all the jewelry, I want to be able to see every single thing. I could cram a lot more in if I want to put stuff on top of stuff but I know myself, and if I can't see it, it's not getting worn. Towards the bottom, I put all my thicker bangles and cuffs - bracelets you can stack. In the middle I put small bracelets, then the back is thin bangles, beaded bracelets - spread out so I can see what's there.
5th drawer - David Yurman, Chan Luu, Melinda Maria bracelets, watches. I can re-arrange and fit more in this drawer if I need to.
That's the five drawers inside the doors, then you have the 2 bottom drawers:
Not much in here. Wallets and a Chanel bag.
Bottom drawer is sunglasses. The Chanel bag in the above drawer held the case and box for my Chanel sunglasses when it was in the closet. I suppose it could be thrown away now, but I don't feel like throwing away a Chanel bag :)

Whew! So that's it. Looking at it, there's a little more room than I thought. I could make the bottom 2 drawers jewelry as well if I needed to, and I probably will someday. For now, I'm tired of organizing and re-organizaing!

What I'm Loving...

Most of you know if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, but I'm out of commission right now with an upper and lower respiratory infection. So sorry if I'm behind on reading and commenting on blogs, but I'm in the middle of trying to get the fever from hell to break so we can go on vacation as planned. It's more work than I thought.
Here's what I'm loving:

Chanel: Collections and Creations by Daniele Bott
I wanted this book as soon as I saw it. Of course, it was hard to find without having to wait to get it. Anyway, I finally got it and it's basically the most gorgeous book to ever sit on my coffee table. It's worth the wait. (And is back in stock on Amazon now!)

Skinny Cow
150 calories and I can still have ice cream? Works for me. And they have even more flavors now than they used to. Love these!

Dancing With the Stars
I don't think it's any surprise I get sucked into a lot of reality TV shows, seeing as they make a regular appearance on this list. Dancing With the Stars hasn't captivated my attention as much as past seasons, but I'm still watching every week. The cheesiness alone will always have me coming back. You just can't top it.

Toby Lightman - Devils and Angels
'Cause I used to have angels
They used to watch over me
When love was not a stranger
But love ain't what it used to be
And I don't want these devils
They're knocking at my door
So, I can't love you no more
No more
In all the technology madness from the lightning strike, did I ever talk about how it spread? I mentioned on Twitter but probably not here. Anyway, in the middle of trying to fix everything in the living room, one night the DVD player in the bedroom TV stopped working and my iPod battery wouldn't stay charged. (Life is a joke. I just wish it was funnier sometimes.) We hooked up an old DVD player and Apple replaced my iPod so that all got fixed. Point being, since the new and improved iPod I've been listening to music even more than I was and I rediscovered my Toby Lightman album. It's pretty amazing and this is my favorite song from it.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

What I'm Wearing...

Dress - American Eagle, Cardigan - Old Navy, Shoes - Carlos Santana, Earrings - Limited, Ring - BCBG  Max Azria, Sunglasses - Chanel

This is what I wore Sunday morning to church on Easter. It lead to the following conversation between me and Jared:

"You're wearing a snake ring to church?"
"Yeah. There were snakes in the Bible."
"I'm pretty sure they didn't have a positive connotation."
"Maybe I'm trying to change that!"

It's not a pseudo political/religious statement. I just like the ring. But I don't like actual snakes. Um. So there you go.

I re-worked the outfit for the rest of the day when we got home:

Dress - American Eagle, Cardigan - Banana Republic, Leggings - Express, Shoes - Unity by Carlos Santana, Earrings - Limited, Ring - BCBG Max Azria

I could have worn it the first way all day. I just wanted to change :)

It looks like the lilies are dying. Apparently they just do this. Bloom, die and fall off, bloom some more. But then you have a pile of dead lily blooms, and why would you want to look at that? I think I need to work on this gardening stuff some more. I'm not getting it.

Inspiration Board

all images via weheartit

As you know, I've done a pretty good job on the clean out, but it's looking like it could be a few months before we can actually remodel the closet. (Price doing a remodel of a walk-in closet. It can get pricey if you want to do it right!) One of the plans for the remodeled closet is an inspiration board, but I figured I could go ahead and do that part now, so this past weekend I did. I can't wait to start tearing things out of all my magazines and hanging them up. Having the pictures right in front of me when I'm deciding what to wear should make figuring out outfits a lot easier.

Do you have an inspiration board in your room or closet?

Friend Friday - Inspiration

Friend Friday
I recently joined the Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group created by Katy over at Modly ChicEvery week Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic.
1. Which celebrity (celebrities) do you look to for fashion

Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie (I think I've made my House of Harlow love pretty clear...), the list goes on.
2. When it comes to your own personal style, what inspires you?

Anything can be inspiration. Everything from reading magazines, to blogs, to watching TV, to just being out can be inspiring. If something keeps catching my eye I try to figure out how to create it and incorporate it into my wardrobe and life.
3. How do you hope to inspire your readers?

I hope that people who know me and read the blog can see that fashion is about having fun. If you're not enjoying it, you're doing it wrong :)
4. Outside the realm of fashion who/what inspires you?

Music! Anyone who knows me, knows that.
5. And since Idol is ending… Which songs inspire you?

Right now, lots of Adele and Florence + the Machine.

What I'm Wearing...

Shirt - J. Crew, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes - Tory Burch, Scarf - Missoni, Bracelets - Chan Luu, Ring - House of Harlow, Earrings - American Eagle, Nail polish - Sephora by OPI Havana Dreams and Sally Hansen Disco Ball
This is the Missoni scarf from the Gilt post last week. Several of you asked to see it so, here you go. Pictures were taken at the end of the day so they're not the most flattering but, hey, what can you do. Take pictures earlier in the day I suppose but when have I ever been good at planning things in life? Never, that's when. So I don't suppose I'm going to start now.
August says 'sup. He's missed you guys.

What I'm Loving...

I started Level 3 of the Shred yesterday, but not without some drama. And by drama I mostly mean I was dramatic on Twitter, so I should explain. It's not exciting. Basically, I have bad knees. Why? No reason. I never played sports, it's not some old injury, it's just hereditary. My knees don't line up femur right, blah blah, the cartilage is wearing away, they hurt sometimes, blah blah. It's usually not a problem but I notice it more when I'm working out regularly. Level 3 of the Shred involves some ridiculousness called "plyometrics" (idk, it's a lot of jumping), which is brutal on bad knees. I didn't modify enough of the moves, heard my knee pop, and - ouch, basically. So there's my boring knee story! No need to worry, a little rest and it'll be fine again.
Here's what I'm loving:

Slatkin & Co. Pineapple Orchid Candle

Yet another new candle I picked up at the 2/$20 sale at Bath & Body Works. (I got 4 different scents in case you want an idea of how many more you'll be hearing about). A pretty pink color and it's pineapple scented? I was sold.

Keyboard Cover
I was looking for a keyboard cover for the Macbook and as soon as I saw this on Amazon it was all over. Oh, and it was like $2. I'm not kidding. Now I have pink keys! And my keyboard is protected, blah, blah, blah.

Sally Hansen Disco Ball
Apparently this is a bargain "What I'm Loving..." because I grabbed this at Target for less than $3. It's pretty. And sparkly. You know how I feel about that combination. Unlike some of my glitter polishes, this isn't opaque so it's more like a glitter topcoat on top of whatever nail polish you're wearing. I like that sometimes, plus it's easier to remove than a full on glitter polish.

Sephora Sale
Ok, another bargain/sale/good deal. You're welcome. I already posted about it, but tomorrow is the last day of Chic Week so I hope you've got your Sephora orders in! Sephora usually just does sales twice a year so I very much look forward to stocking up. I want to hear what you've picked up!

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Friend Friday - Gratitude

Friend Friday
I recently joined the Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group created by Katy over at Modly ChicEvery week Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic.
1.  When it comes to be personally – I owe a lot of who I am to:
My parents, my husband, family, the small group of people I consider to be good, true friends.
2. When it comes to be professionally – I owe a lot of who I am to:

Know how on the side it says "A 20-something girl trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up"? I still am. If I ever do figure it out, I'll let you know.
3. When it comes to the art of blogging, I’m grateful to these people
for helping me through some rough spots:

Lately, that's definitely my #shredcrew. Having my group of girls to motivate me while I'm trying to eat better and exercise has been beyond helpful!
4. One blogging challenge I’m grateful happened because it made me
stronger was…

I don't view any part of blogging as a challenge. If I did, I'd probably walk away from it. Too many other things in my life are a challenge. I do this for fun and as an escape and if it's ever not, I don't want to do it anymore and I won't.
5. To my readers, I’d like to say…

While I like to blog about things that are fun and interesting to me, this blog is still me, and my life gets pretty well integrated into it. My life isn't always pretty, perfect, or well put together and as a result, neither is the blog sometimes. And yet, it's continued to grow. The number of people who stop by daily to read what I've written completely astounds me and I'm always thankful for it.

Closet Clean Out Progress

Well, my closet is never going to look like that, but it's good to dream. Anyway. You might remember my Closet Clean Out post from earlier in the year. Although we have plenty of space, I realized that my clothes, accessories, etc., weren't organized in a way that was functional to me. It's a work in progress, but I figured I'd update on what I've done.

  • Nail polish - I've posted before how my nail polish is organized. This hasn't changed, but in the cleaning out I did clean out quite a few nail polishes to get my collection down to a more manageable size and to be able to keep everything in the nail polish drawer.
  • Jewelry organization - I got my jewelry armoire for my birthday, so all jewelry and accessories got cleaned out, organized, and put in the new armoire. I'll do a post on this soon.
  • Makeup - I have my vanity, which I'm happy with, so I just cleaned out to pare down my collection, make sure there was room for everything, etc.
  • Purses - I went through all my clutches, wristlets, and bags. There was so many that just weren't getting used or that I realized I didn't like anymore. I sold a few on eBay, sold some to the local consignment store, then gave away the rest.
  • Shoes - This is a category I've done good with. I actually wear most of my shoes so there weren't many I wanted to get rid of. The few pairs that didn't make the cut went to the consignment store.
  • For the rest of my clothes - it was a process. I usually just did one drawer or category of clothes a day so I could really take the time to go through piece by piece and see if I wore it, if I liked it, and if I wanted it. Then I determined to consign it, sell it, or give it away. It took a long time but I think taking your time with this is the way to go. Otherwise you'll get frustrated and quit or frustrated and give away half your closet. Neither is a good option.

So that's where it stands. I've gone through everything, cleaned it out, and figured out what to do with it. Nail polish, makeup, and jewelry are either re-organized or in a new home. As far as the closet, the next step is to figure out what kind of system would work the best for both of us. So, that's what's next!
