Butter London

I love Butter London nail polish, but they retail for $14 a piece. Ridiculous. So obviously, when you see a deal on something like that - run. During Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty, one day they had buy 1 get 1 free on Butter nail polishes.
You know what that means.

Big Smoke
London’s finest. Mildly metallic navy blue that’s as naughty as a night in a smoky pub.
I was worried this might be a dupe of Essie's Midnight Cami once I got home, but I don't think it's exactly the same. Midnight Cami is a navy true navy while Big Smoke has more royal blue in it, and Big Smoke looks like it has more shimmer. Even if it was a dupe, Midnight Cami is one of my favorite polishes so - works for me.

Henley Regatta
Glitters like the Thames on a sunny day. A fusion of green and blue glitter that varies in intensity depending on the light.
Blue/green glitter? Sold.

Yummy Mummy
Our ‘magic’ lacquer. This medium beige colour is simply stunning on EVERY skin colour. If you can’t decide on a lacquer, then we will for you. It’s this.
This is similar in color to All Hail McQueen (it's called All Hail the Queen now) but the most notable difference is that it's a cream where All Hail McQueen is shimmery. I absolutely love All Hail McQueen so I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of Yummy Mummy.

A textured twinkling vintage blue pale and slightly smoky.
It's pretty and I don't have anything like it.

I made 2 trips to Ulta on sale day. I bought 2, came home, and immediately wished I'd gotten more so I went back later. Anyway, that worked out because each time I used a $3.50 coupon. Since they were buy 1 get 1 for $14, with the coupon it was 2 polishes for $10.50. $5.25 each! Works for me.

Did you pick up any Butter London polishes during the Ulta sale?

What I'm Wearing...

Dress - Old Navy, Cardigan - Missoni for Target, Boots - BCBGeneration, Watch - Michael Kors, Bracelet - Chan Luu
It was in the 80's on Saturday, but I couldn't take it anymore - it was time to break out some fall clothes. It dropped to the 50's at night, so by the time we left for dinner it was manageable to wear boots and long sleeves.
Ok fine, we had to ride with the air blasting but I don't care. I will dress seasonally appropriate despite the fact that I live in a seasonally inappropriate climate. It's a sacrifice I make.
Nail polish - OPI Ski Teal We Drop and Butter London Henley Regatta
Definitely going to be 2 of my favorite nail polishes throughout fall and winter.
I didn't take a picture with the bag, so this is me attempting to illustrate how good the LV looks with the cardigan. And it didn't work because my camera sucks so - just take my word. The colors looked really good together. Promise.

What I'm Loving...

My parents have been on vacation for about a week and a half now, which means we've had an extra houseguest for a week and a half (that'd be Coco if you've somehow missed the Tweets and Instagram pics). Keeps things more interesting, that's for sure :)
Here's what I'm loving:

Essie Chinchilly
This honestly seemed boring to me at first. I mean - it's gray. Essie describes it as "a sleek, granite gray" though and that's it. It's chic, it goes with anything, it's an easy, wearable color. Love.

Up All Night
This is one of the new shows we've started watching this fall and so far it's pretty hilarious. With Christina Applegate and Will Arnett I doubt that's going to change anytime soon.

Autumn Leaves
Yes, it's another fall scent and candle I have. I have a problem. But they all smell so good and make my house smell like fall (or what I imagine fall should smell like...) so - that's my excuse. I'll do a post soon with all my favorite fall candles, tarts, and scents in one place :)

Barbarossa - Stones
Sharp as a marble, these stones keep my feet on the ground
All this experience weighs me down
But there is gold hidden by rock and sand
I have to search a little harder now

When I love a song like this, well first I immediately buy it on iTunes and listen to it on repeat an annoying amount. Then I make a Genius Playlist off the song. If you're not using this in iTunes, I don't know why. You should be. And you should make one with this song.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Wish List - Snakeskin Boots: Success!

A couple of weeks ago I did my first post on a Wish List item - snakeskin boots. (A wish list item being something you love and wish you could have, but usually cant afford.) I asked for any suggestions for an affordable pair and had some luck! Dawn from The Alternative Wife showed me this Rockport pair - considerably less than the Valentino's I was lusting after :) By the end of the week I had ordered them and I can't wait to start wearing them! Of course this meant I had to make room for shoes again, but hey, we all make sacrifices.
I think they fit in pretty nicely.
Thank you so much to everyone who commented, and thank you Dawn for linking me to these! More Wish List items to come :)

Fall Shopping - Minnetonka Boots

Minnetonka Front Lace Knee Boot
Boots are always at the top of my shopping list in the fall. I've wanted this Minnetonka pair for at least 2 years, so I finally took the plunge and ordered them. Now I'm not entirely sure what I want to wear them with, so outfit suggestions are welcome. Of course nothing is ever simple, and as soon as I got them I realized there wasn't room for them in the closet. As I've mentioned a million times, eventually we'll remodel the master closet. The amount of space is great, but it's just not utilized well. At all. The Engineer helped me re-work my existing shoe storage though and for now there's room again.
The shelves that sandals and wedges were on are now hanging to free up floor space, the heel rack slid down to the other end of the back wall, and now there's room to line up my boots (flats are in a hanging organizer on the door). It's not perfect, but it works. Shoe storage suggestions are also welcome along with the outfit ideas. I just keep asking you guys to do things for me, don't I? Sorry about that...

Missoni Madness

Hey, did you know Missoni had a line with Target?
Ok. Bad joke. I know almost everyone had the same ridiculous experience I had, and I'd said I'd do a post on it but there's nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Target handled everything about this launch wrong, and since it's running until October 22, I hope they redeem themselves in some way. Stores are still getting shipments, and I know my local Target has, so hopefully stores around you will, too and you can get something in the collection if you wanted it. All that said, here's what I got from the collection:

After the website crashing debacle, I went to the store a few minutes after it opened. There was a pretty decent selection (at the time). The flats had been on my list since I'd seen the look book, but I wanted to see them and the clothes in person before deciding on anything. This cardigan was my favorite. Online I did like a couple of the dresses, but I never saw any in my store. A long, neutral cardigan is something I'll get more wear out of in the upcoming months anyway.

On Friday we had to stop at Target to get Jared some medicine, and low and behold, they had restocked the home section. I was eyeing this bedding and Jared said he liked it better than what we had in the guest bedroom. I need very little encouragement, so we picked it up.

What (if anything) were you able to pick up from Missoni for Target?

What I'm Wearing...

Shirt - Gap, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes - Tory Burch, Earrings - House of Harlow, Watch - Michael Kors, Bangles - Melinda Maria

As I mentioned earlier in the week, Saturday night was our 10 year high school reunion. If you went to a big or even normal sized high school, your reunion was probably a big ordeal where you wore cocktail attire and... and... um, I have no idea what it would be like because I went to an extremely tiny school.
When you graduate with 60 people you rent a room at a local restaurant. Works for me.
And FYI, your spouse won't feel awkward at your high school reunion if you went to high school with him. I'm just saying. Something to keep in mind.

What I'm Loving...

The rest of the year, the week's are for work and the weekend is for resting but for us (and the rest of the South), that changes in September. The weekend is full of football games, socializing, and non-stop activity. But that's completely fine with me. We can rest in January :)
Here's what I'm loving:

Fall TV
Fine, I mostly get excited for crap like Dancing With the Stars, but come on - it's entertaining!

Ski Teal We Drop
This came out last fall and I have no idea why I didn't run out and buy it. Doesn't matter, because teal has been getting a ton of attention lately and now I have a gorgeous creamy, teal nail polish.

Pier 1
Ok, I love Pier 1 year round but starting this time of year I could go in weekly and buy out the store. All the cute decorations they have for entertaining? Yeah. Love.

Slatkin & Co. Leaves Candle
Loved it last year, love it this year, am going to write angry letter to Bath & Body Works if they ever discontinue it. (Not kidding.)

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

10 Years

Saturday night was our 10 year high school reunion. (I feel old.)
There were 60 people in our graduating class, so between Facebook, Twitter, and everything else, we mostly know what everyone has been up to. (If you missed the memo, I'm saying "we" because Jared and I went to high school together. No, we didn't date then.)
Me and Charli, summer after 11th grade - 2000
Me and Charli - 2011
Charli has been one of my best friends since... um, the first day of 9th grade. Yep. (I'm feeling old again.)
Back row - Me, Christina, Jillian
Front Row - Charli, Laura Stacey
Me, Jillian, Laura, Charli, Christina
Same group, minus Stacey who was out of town on Saturday. We look the same, right? (Lie to me. Thanks.)
Leading up to the reunion I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy it, but it was fun getting to catch up with everyone. (And hey to those of you that I know are reading!)

Outfit post to come later this week...

Friend Friday - Advice

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly ChicFor the first and third week of each month Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly ChicOn the other weeks, FBFF will be doing a Visual Friend Friday.

This week, we're supposed to share the one piece of advice that has made a difference in our life.

When I sat down to think about this FBFF topic, I realized I don't have one piece of advice that someone's given me that I always live by. I certainly make an effort to surround myself with people who's ideas and opinions I respect and take into account, but there's not any singular piece of advice that I always refer back to and I definitely don't make decisions based on what makes the most sense.
If I had listened to what anyone in my life had to say 7 years ago, I would have never even started dating Jared, much less ended up married to him.
If I'd done what was most logical, I would have gone back to a full-time job after I got married instead of going back to college and finishing my degree.
If I hadn't kept making doctor's appointments because I knew something was wrong, I wouldn't have found out I have MS as soon as I did.
So I guess that would mean my piece of advice is
don't listen.
Get opinions, take into consideration what the people close to you have to say, but in the end - trust your gut and do what you want to do.

If you're interested in FBFF, go to Modly Chic for more information then e-mail Katy if you want to join the group.

High vs. Low: Dry Shampoo

Tigi Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo $18.95
Awhile back I posted about loving Tigi Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo. It does everything it says it will - absorbs oil, adds volume, and gives you a day where you don't have to wash your hair. The only thing I don't love about it is the price.
Tressemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo $5.49
Given the huge price difference (and obvious similarities in branding), I was eager to try Tressemme's version. I haven't been impressed with it at all though. I've had trouble with the nozzle clogging, which both brands admit can be a problem and is easily fixed (just remove it and run it under hot water), but I've never had that happen with multiple cans of Rockaholic. That said, if it was the only issue I'd overlook it since it can happen with both. It just doesn't work for me, though. I don't get any result from it and my hair just looks like I should wash it, completely ruining the point of using dry shampoo.

I wish it worked better for me since obviously it would be a great find. I won't repurchase though because even if it's only a few dollars, it's a few dollars wasted if it's not doing what it's supposed to. Tigi goes on sale at Ulta, and if you combine that with the frequent $3.50 off coupons Ulta loves to give out, it's not a bad deal - especially for a product that actually does what it claims!

What I'm Loving...

This time of year just puts me in a better mood. Is that just me?
 Here's what I'm loving:

Missoni for Target
If you follow me on Twitter, you know the Missoni madness that ensued yesterday. Regardless, I was able to get 2 things. While I love the line, I hate the way nearly everything about it was handled. I'll do a post detailing the the craziness once I've recovered from it...

Sally Hansen Check It Out
I wore these Sally Hansen Salon Effects for the first football game this season. Obviously they were perfect (RTR). Now if I just had more...

Aveda Scalp Remedy
This is marketed as a dandruff treatment, but Charli thought it might be good for me since my sensitive skin makes my scalp get dry and irritated. So far, so good! Of course, I've never met an Aveda product I didn't completely love, but that's besides the point.

Slatkin & Co. Creamy Pumpkin Candle
You better believe I bolted to Bath & Body Works as soon as the 2/$20 candle sale coincided with the fall candles being released. There were 3 different pumpkin scents, but this was far and away the best.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Wish List - Snakeskin Boots

Valentino via Pinterest
So I have a plan for fall this year. I'm going to make planned, organized, thought out purchases for things I really want, love, and will get a lot of use out of. I'll do some posts on that, but in addition to that, there's always the wish list things you want. In my case, you can never afford things on your wish list.
First item on that list - snakeskin boots.
Ok, they're gorgeous though, right? Anyway, they're Valentino (and $2395) so that can't happen (did I mention $2395?), and so far I haven't located an affordable substitute. Snakeskin booties, sure. Boots with snakeskin accent, no problem. But something like this (it doesn't have to be actual snakeskin as I'm sure that'll throw out the affordable aspect), I haven't been able to find.
So give me suggestions, links, pictures, anything. There has to be a pair out there that will work...

September 12, 2011

Friday night we went out for Mexican food, came home and finished cleaning up (family coming over for football on Saturday, obviously), and then I devoted a few blissful hours to September's Vogue. The September issue of Vogue requires a few hours (since it's the size of a phone book), but I always look forward to it. In 2006, I read Vogue on our honeymoon. In 2009 I read it soon after we'd just put a contract on our first house. This year I read it the night Jared accepted a promotion at work.

See? Vogue means good things.

Pictures are ones I took and posted on Instagram

Friend Friday - An Outfit Based on a Song

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly ChicFor the first and third week of each month Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly ChicOn the other weeks, FBFF will be doing a Visual Friend Friday.

For this week's Visual Friend Friday the topic is an outfit based on a favorite song.

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know
That I am the luckiest

What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?

And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am the luckiest

I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you
Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away

I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

With our recent anniversary still on my mind, I picked my wedding dress and the song is "The Luckiest", which was sung at our wedding.

If you're interested in FBFF, go to Modly Chic for more information then e-mail Katy if you want to join the group.
