New Year's Eve

we♥it

Anyone have big New Year's Eve plans? I don't mind a low key night (what else is new?) but no matter what we do, I'm sure I'll use it as en excuse to wear something sparkly. Good reason, right?

Last one...

we♥it

It's the last weekend of the year - is it going to be a calm, quiet one at home, or are you going out? I think you all can guess how mine will go.

Have a great weekend :)

After Christmas Sales

we♥it

Anyone hit up after Christmas sales yet? Since I don't like crowds, lines, etc. I avoid them just like I do after Thanksgiving. Online is another story though - I can shop from my couch in my PJs. And this is why I think gift cards are a wonderful gift. If you have done shopping, or looking, what have you found? Who has the best deal right now?

December 26, 2012

Love is simply joy that I’m home...

I don’t care if the house is packed,
Or the strings of light are broken.
I don’t care if the gifts are wrapped,
Or there’s nothing here to open.
Love is not a toy, and no paper will conceal it.
Love is simply joy that I’m home.
I don’t care if the carpet's stained; we've got food upon our table.
I don’t care if it’s gonna rain, our little room is warm and stable.
Love is who we are, and no season can contain it.
Love would never fall for that.Let love lead us, love is Christmas.
Why so scared that you’ll mess it up?
When perfection keeps you haunted.
All we need is your best my love, that’s all anyone ever wanted.
Love is how we do, let no judgment overrule it.
Love I look to you, and I sing.
Let love lead us, love is Christmas.
Let love lead us, love is Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

I hope you're having a great day and a wonderful holiday season :)

Christmas Eve

we♥it

Merry Christmas Eve :) We've been having Christmas for a few days now and today is no different. We'll be having Christmas with Jared's family today then both families over at our house tonight.
Has Christmas started for you yet?

Christmas Time is Here

we♥it

With my sister coming into town tonight, Christmas time has officially started. The weekend will be full of Christmas celebrations going well into next week. That's how it goes around here - Christmas for days. What will you be up to?

Have a great weekend :)

A Festivus for the rest of us

I know it's a few days early, but here's your reminder to have a happy Festivus. Air all your grievances, put up your aluminum pole, and good luck with the feats of strength.

December 19, 2012

From now on your troubles will be miles away...

Through the years we all will be together and
If the fates allow
But 'til then we'll have to muddle through somehow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs and this version is by one of my favorite bands. Obviously, I had to save this as the last Christmas song for the year. Well that sounds depressing, now doesn't it? Kind of fitting I suppose when you consider the tone of the song. I still think it's beautiful, though.

December 18, 2012

Starting to feel like Christmas...

It was actually cold enough to turn on the fireplace one night...

The presents are wrapped...

...including ones for the puppies

Starting to feel a little like Christmas over here. How about you?

Weekend Update

Rachael Yamagata concert

After a late night Thursday at the concert, the rest of the weekend was pretty relaxed. A good thing too since Christmas activities will be kicking up full force next weekend. A date night Saturday and a lazy Sunday spent watching movies was just what I needed.

How was your weekend?

December 14, 2012

Christmas Lights

we♥it

If you've been around here awhile, you might have picked up on my child like attitude towards Christmas. I like the movies. I like the music. I like to drive around and look at lights. I think the latter is on the agenda this weekend so I'm pretty pumped. A little trip to Starbucks is probably in order first. What are your plans?

Have a great weekend :)

December 13, 2012

Rachael Yamagata

Tonight I'm getting to see one of my all time favorite artists in concert for the first time. Now, unfortunately Rachael Yamagata isn't nearly as well known as she should be so for your benefit, here are some of my favorite songs by her:

Paper Doll

Little Life

Sunday Afternoon

The Way it Seems to Go

Dealbreaker

Enjoy :)

December 12, 2012

When silence gets too hard to handle...

Sense of joy fills the air
And I daydream and I stare
Up at the tree and I see
Your star up there

And this is how I see you
In the snow on Christmas morning
Love and happiness surround you
As you throw your arms up to the sky
I keep this moment by and by

Ok, I already told you I love Sarah McLachlan. How can you not after hearing this? The melody is beautiful and as always, I love the piano. The album has been out for years but it always gets played many times around here at Christmas.

December 11, 2012

A little Dior

Shopping the Sephora VIB sale (my first makeup shopping in months), renewed my VIB status which then prompted Sephora to send my a $20 gift card that I had about a week to use. They also sent me a 10% off coupon. Maybe that was for my renewed VIB status and the $20 was something else. Oh who cares. They are throwing money at me and I'm a weak individual. That's the point here.
I mean, how was I supposed to $20 go to waste?
I didn't.

First thing I picked up was Dior Amber Diamond. It gets reviews as one of the best skin highlighter's and I've been curious about it for quite some time.

I also picked up Dior's Blue Label. I have a lot of blue nail polishes but this one really did look different from anything I have and I couldn't quite figure out why. Reading the online description it's called a "midnight blue grey"and that's exactly what the difference is - the grey. Anyway, it's gorgeous and I know I'll get a lot of use out of it.

So that's it. Only 2 things. Not bad, right?

December 10, 2012

Crashing.

we♥it

Last week I had my steroid infusion. If you followed through some of my Twitter gripes about that, the end result is that after a laundry list of side effects, I end up crashing for a day or 2. Like cannot get out of bed, feels like I'm dragging lead behind me, struggle to open my eyes, hard to get a sentence out of my mouth exhausted. Sounds fun, huh?

How was your weekend? Please tell me it's been better than mine.

December 7, 2012

Present wrapping time...

we♥it

Since the house is (finally) all decorated, I think this weekend it's time to start wrapping. I like to wrap all the presents in one night. Crazy? Maybe. But once you drag everything out, might as well just get it done, right? Does anyone have any good links/suggestions/etc. for wrapping? I usually just slap a bow on the presents and call it done. We go all out over here, people.

Have a great weekend :)

December 6, 2012

Peppermint Problem

It started when I saw/smelled this at Pier 1 - the Peppermint Creme reed diffuser. Loved it. Obsessed. Needed it in my living room.

Then I picked up a Twisted Peppermint candle at the Bath & Body Works 2/$20 candle sale. It was my favorite scent last year and this year the creepy snowman didn't deter me from repurchasing.

Then when I was checking out Yankee Candle's new holiday scents, guess which one was my favorite? Peppermint bark.

And finally when I was back at Bath & Body Works picking up some Christmas presents, I grabbed a bottle of Twisted Peppermint shower gel for myself...

...it's at that point I decided I have a peppermint problem. But it all smells really good. I promise. And I'm not buying anything else. Really. I'm serious this time...

December 5, 2012

Guide us to thy perfect light...

O, star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.

Not going to lie, I've loved Sarah McLachlan since I was about 14. Put her with the Barenaked Ladies singing 2 Christmas songs together? Sounds pretty good to me. Doesn't hurt that I love both of the songs, too.

December 4, 2012

Christmas Decorations

We started the indoor decorating, umm, one night last week. Thursday? Friday? I'm not really sure. Anyway, the above picture explains why I might be having a hard time remembering this.
The guest bedroom went smoothly. There are some new additions to our vacation collection of ornaments. You'll notice there is not a New Orleans ornament. A 24 hr stay and hurricane evacuation does not lend itself enough time for ornament purchasing.
I told Jared the kitchen feels disjointed this year. Like I have too many styles or color schemes or something going on. He just sort of stared at me for a minute then walked out of the room.
The 2nd tree we bought for the living room. We got a real tree as usual, but had to give it to Jared's parents. Remember how I ended up in the ER last year after we bought it? Well my eyes were nearly swollen shut within an hour of purchasing the real tree this year. My allergies just can't handle it, so Jared headed out for an artificial tree on Sunday (while I was still itching like crazy...).
We started on the tree around 9 or 10 Sunday night and finished around midnight. Long weekend! But hey, it all got done. Finally.

Is your Christmas tree up yet? Did you buy a real one, have to give it away, then go in search of a fake one? Nope? Just me? Ok then.

Weekend Update

the 4th quarter is ours

Saturday's SEC Championship was definitely a nail biter of a game. August even got pretty depressed there for awhile. True story. But ultimately Bama pulled it out and we will be playing Notre Dame in January for the National Championship! I think the game took it out of me though. I didn't get nearly as much accomplished as I had planned to on Sunday.

How was your weekend?

Christmas Decorating

new garland for the 2nd tree

We (and by we I mean Jared) got the outside decorated last weekend, but there just wasn't enough time to pull out all the indoor Christmas decorations. Actually I don't know how much time we have this weekend, but it's getting done. We'll start tonight and it'll be sometime Sunday before it's finished but, oh well. I love it so I don't care.

Have a great weekend :)

(Expensive) Lesson Learned

Last Saturday I wore my Paula Bianco wrap scarf to the football game. After wearing it all day, I naturally threw it in the dirty clothes and washed it on Sunday. It said to hand wash it, but I never do that. Wash on gentle and you'll be fine, right?
Wrong.
RIP, Paula Bianco scarf. We had some good times together.

At least Christmas is soon, right?

November 28, 2012

I wish I had a river I could skate away on...

Well, I'm so hard to handle, I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby that I ever had
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on

Starting the day after Thanksgiving (or actually in the car driving on Thanksgiving), I can start listening to nothing but Christmas music and no one (ie, Jared) is allowed to complain about it. Hey, rules are rules. I don't make them. Ok, I made that one but anyway. Anyway, expect a Christmas song a week for the next month. You're welcome in advance.

Cyber Monday Shopping

Who did some Cyber Monday deals yesterday? Like I've said, Black Friday terrifies me but I'm fine with Cyber Monday. I don't have to leave my living room to do that. Ideally I do a huge chunk of shopping then, but I'm already feeling behind this year. How did that happen?

What deals did you find on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

November 26, 2012

Weekend Update

Thanksgiving weekend is also Iron Bowl weekend, so Saturday we headed to Tuscaloosa. It was pretty cold but who cares when you beat your rival 49-0? Exactly. We didn't get much done with Christmas decorating. The outside is done but the inside will have to wait until next weekend. Good thing Thanksgiving was early this year.

Black Friday

I may love shopping but Black Friday terrifies me to my very core. Crowds? Lines? Early morning? I strongly dislike all of these things. Other people participating in Black Friday intrigues me, though. So are you heading out today? What deal are you trying to get? Or do you just enjoy the madness?

Have a great weekend :)

Be Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving!
No matter where you live or what you have going on today, try and take a minute to sit back and appreciate what's around you.

November 21, 2012

Everyone knows it's going to hurt, but at least we'll get hurt trying...

You'll want to go back
You'll wish you were small
Nothing can slow the crying
You'll take the clock off of your wall
And you'll wish it was lying

Love what you have and you'll have more love
You're not dying
Everyone knows you're going to love
Though there's still no cure for crying

Since I'm still listening to Regina Spektor's "What We Saw from the Cheap Seats" on repeat, here is another favorite from the album. I love that enjoy though the song sounds melancholy throughout, when you listen to the lyrics it's really not. Give it a try and see if you agree.

Whole 30 - What now?

Several people were curious how reintroduction went when we finished Whole 30 and what our conclusions were. Bottom line - we both feel a lot better when we're eating a primarily Paleo diet. There's nothing we cut out that has been added back nearly to the limit it was in our diet before. Sugar is extremely rare for me now, dairy has been way modified (almond milk, clarified butter, etc.), and I'm being very selective about grains (especially corn - that one might be gone) since that seems to be a problem for my stomach.
This has been extremely eye opening. You really can change your attitude and outlook towards food in a month - something I would have never believed was possible. It's crazy how much better I feel and how much I don't want the things I had before. Again, never would have thought that could happen in a month. We'll probably do Whole 30 every few months to stay on track, and then stay most Paleo like we are now the rest of the time. If you haven't done Whole 30 it is absolutely worth giving it a try!

Weekend Update

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you know it was a busy week of getting the bathroom re-tiled and working on remodeling the office. The bathroom is finally finished and put back together (pictures to come on Instagram, and maybe here) so now it's down to the office. All the furniture was finally delivered and assembled, the shelves that were in there before have been repainted, so now it's just a matter of organizing and re-hanging everything. By Sunday I was ready for a break so I headed out for a little shopping. I needed new jeans (down a size, woo) and J. Crew was having a 30% off their sale items which was calling my name. A pretty good way to end the weekend if you ask me.

Sephora VIB Sale

Like I mentioned yesterday, I finally caved and ordered from the Sephora VIB sale last week. Hey, I went 4 months without buying makeup. I think that's pretty good. I got a good variety of things. First, things I needed to stock back up on:

Josie Maran Argan Oil

beautyblender's
Clarisonic Replacement Brush Head
Ok, so those 3 are things I use daily and that needed replacing. Technically those are also all things I could have bought while on the "freeze", but might as well get them at 20% off, right? Now on to the fun stuff:

Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette
I did a post on this months ago and a post yesterday on picking this over the Vice Palette

Lancome Hypn├┤se Star Mascara Collection
I've wanted to try the Star mascara, and this set was just a few dollars more with a primer, eye makeup remover, and full sized (or close to full sized, I'm not positive) art liner. Good deal!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed

Already have 2 of these, love them, and have wanted Exposed for months.

NARS Lipstick in Belle du Jour

Have wanted this for YEARS. Not kidding. Gotta love a good nude lipstick :)

Make Up For Ever Lap Shine Lip Gloss in S2
I have one of these from the Diamond Collection, and I've been curious about this color from the Star Collection for quite some time.

Lorac 3d Liquid Lustre in Diamond - pearl shimmer
I've seen this in several tutorials and loved the result. I have a few hi-liters so I didn't need another, but this is gorgeous and you can also use it on top of your eyeshadow for added shimmer. I think it'll be amazing during the holidays.

I also got my samples, a VIB tote (free), and redeemed 500 of my points for a Laura Mercier set. Phew. This is what happens when I buy no makeup for months...

Have a great weekend :)

Urban Decay Palette - which one?

With the Sephora 20% off VIB sale, the make up spending freeze finally had to come to an end. I'll do a full post on what I picked up, but one of the things I was trying to decide was which Urban Decay palette get. In the past, I'd probably get both, but with all my cleaning out the last couple of years I'm trying to do better. So here's what I was deciding between:

The Vice Palette
This set contains:
- 20 x 0.03 oz Eyeshadow in: Desperation (greyish taupe brown matte-satin), Muse (dark reddish brown w/ golden and multi shimmer), Jagged (matte black base w/gold metallic), Blitz (Bright gold metallic), Penny Lane (bronze metallic w/gold glitter), Junkie (dark green-blue w/ gold shimmer), Chaos (vibrant royal blue w/ very subtle shimmer), Unhinged (electric turquoise blue metallic), Occupy (dark grey-blue metallic), Black Market (dark charcoal black matte-satin), Provocateur (light greyish pink w/lots of multi-glitter), Rapture (dark greyish purple w/multi-shimmer), Vice (dark eggplant w/subtle red shimmer), Noise (dark reddish-pink metallic with big gold glitter), Armor (greyish brown metallic w/ silver micro-glitter), Nevermind (light taupe-brown shimmer), Echo Beach (light wheat-champagne shimmer), Anonymous (light whitish-pink nude matte), Freebird (light peachy-pink w/ silver micro-glitter), Laced (pinky-taupe matte)
- Double sided brush
$59.00

Smoked Palette
This set contains:
- 10 x 0.03 oz in Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout, Barlust, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, Asphalt
- 0.04 oz 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion
- 0.13 oz Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original
$49.00

Ok, so basically with the first you get 20 full sized eyeshadows and a double sided brush, and with the 2nd you get 10 full sized eyeshadows, a mini primer potion, and a full sized 24/7 liner (which retails for $19). This still makes the first a better value, but when I looked at reviews and swatches, I knew I'd get much more use out of Smoked than Vice. The colors looked like ones I'd use more and I think the quality seemed better as well.  So for that reason, and that I've been wanting to pick up Perversion, I ordered Smoked. The better value doesn't matter as much if you're not going to use it!

Time can come and wash away the pain...

I guess you know by now
That we will meet again somehow

Time can come and take away the pain
But I just want my memories to remain
To hear your voice
To see your face
There’s not one moment I’d erase
You are a guest here now

Regina Spektor's newest album is nothing short of amazing. It's hard to pick a favorite since I have about 5, but this one might be it. You know I love anything piano, so give me a ballad like this and, well, I'm pretty much set.

Weekend Update

If you follow me on Twitter, well, you know what happened. Let's not rehash that, shall we? Take the good with the bad, and Roll (Tide) on. In other news, my steroid infusion lead to the usual bevy of side effects - metallic taste in my mouth, extreme heat wave, energy burst, followed by the "crash". But hey, at least I got a lot of organizing done when I was up for nearly 24 hours. You have to search for a glimmer of positivity sometimes, people.
How was your weekend?

November 9, 2012

And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

Last Sunday we finally saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I love the book, which usually makes me hesitant to see a movie, but I was still curious enough to see how it turned out. I thought it was really good - not as good as the book (never is), but still really good. It's impossible to get all the details from a book into a movie, but I was pretty impressed. Definitely go read the book first if you haven't. You won't be disappointed.

Have a great weekend :)
