Ready for Fall

Tomorrow is September 1st, and the start of football season which means - it's fall. Pumpkin Spice Lattes (which aren't out yet), Leaves candles (which I haven't bought yet), September magazines (which I already read). Ok. Maybe I'm not quite ready. And Alabama doesn't have fall, anyway.

But football. Football is starting, so we have that. And I can buy the Leaves candles.

Where We Belong

Where We Belong via

Before we left on our trip, I finished Emily Giffin's latest book "Where We Belong". I've read all her books now and have to say, I love them all. They're easy reads but at the same time, there's always a catch in the storyline. Something (or several things) that stop and make you think, and I like that.

What have you been reading lately?

August 29, 2012

I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you...

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

This is my hands down favorite Ben Folds song, and it always will be.
Oh yeah - we had it sung at our wedding. So that's probably why :)

Vacation Reading

Normally I'm eager for reading recommendations when I'm on vacation, but being that we're out of town this week I don't think there's any question what I'm working my way through. I have my Nook too, of course, but September magazines are still calling my name! Which one has been your favorite?

6 Years

I'm away this week celebrating 6 years of marriage to this guy. A couple of years ago I did 2 long and picture heavy posts on what our engagement and wedding were like, if you want to look over those. (And you should, those suckers took forever.)

Have a good week :)

Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette

Since I'm not buying makeup right now, I'm making a list of things that interest me and if they're still on my mind whenever I buy makeup again - I'll know I really want it. This was one of the first things to go on that list. I love my Urban Decay Naked Palettes, so being drawn to the Smoked Eyeshadow Palette is no surprise. You get 10 eyeshadows, a mini primer potion, and a full sized 24/7 liner. I'm thinking this is going to stay on the list.

Tory Burch Marion Tote

Tory Burch Marion tote

I think I found my fall bag. The Tory Burch Marion tote. Coincidently I also feel this makes a great 6th wedding anniversary gift. Funny how that works out, isn't it?

This time, I feel my luck could change...

It's gonna be a glorious day
I feel my luck could change

Pull me out of the aircrash
Pull me out of the wake
I'm your superhero
We are standing on the edge

I've been listening to OK Computer a lot recently and I have to say, for some reason I'm loving different songs than usual. For years Karma Police and Paranoid Android were my favorites off the album but lately Lucky, Exit Music and No Surprises have been on steady repeat. I guess that's what happens when you listen to something for so long - you cycle through your favorites and find some new ones.

New Orleans

It took awhile to figure out the plans for our anniversary, but we finally decided to go to New Orleans. We're leaving in a few days and I can't wait! Have you ever been to New Orleans? What do you recommend?

Weekend Update

This was our last "free" weekend for a couple of months, so we tried to get a few different things done. Like watching a lot of Friday Night Lights and tending to an extremely spoiled dog. Things like that. There was also a shameful amount of laundry to deal with, but you'll have to look on Instagram for that. I'm not posting that here - I have my limits. Oh, and what's going on the next couple of months that's keeping us busy? An anniversary trip we're leaving for on Friday (more on that later), a trip to the beach, a trip to Nashville, and a whole lot of football (Roll Tide). In other words, the usual this time of year :)

August 17, 2012

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.

I think we've found our new Netflix show. Last weekend Jared and I started watching Friday Night Lights and I was hooked from the pilot. It's amazing! I can't wait to have another marathon of it this weekend :)

What shows are you watching? By the time we finish this fall TV will have started up again, but I'm still always looking for Netflix recommendations :)

OPI Fall 2012 - Germany

The other fall nail polish collection I was most interested in was OPI's. This year the collection colors are based on Germany. They are:
Top row - My Very First Knockwurst, Don’t Pretzel My Buttons, Berlin There Done That, Schnapps Out of It!, Deutsch You Want Me Baby?, Danke-Shine Red
Bottom row - Suzi & the 7 D├╝sseldorfs, Every Month is Oktoberfest, German-icure by OPI, Unfor-Greta-bly Blue, Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine!, Don’t Talk Bach to Me

Don't Talk Back to Me probably looked the most original, but I couldn't decide if I felt like I needed it. I'm still on the fence about it but may end up picking it up. I liked a couple of the neutrals but I have a good pink neutral and a good nude neutral, and how many more do I really need, especially when they aren't colors I reach for often? I loved Every Month is Oktoberfest, but I feel like I have colors similar to it. I ended up getting Suzi & the 7 D├╝sseldorfs and Unfor-Greta-bly Blue because I always love deep  purples and blues during fall and winter and I didn't have anything like them already.

I think this is a good start for fall nail polish. But knowing me I'm sure I'll pick up some more. Which ones are you loving so far?

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room...

Nobody's gonna come and save you,
We pulled too many false alarms.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room

There's something about this song (or the whole Continuum album, really) that just stays with you. I'm using that as my excuse for playing this, and several other songs on the album to the point that I should be sick of them. I should be, but I'm not, so I'll just listen some more.

Essie Fall 2012 - Stylenomics

Saturday I went out to Ulta to look at a couple of fall nail polish collections. (Hey, I said no buying make up. Nail polish isn't on the list.) Essie has their usual 6 piece collection:

Miss Fancy Pants and Don't Sweater It both caught my eye, but each was extremely similar to 2 Essie colors I already have (Chinchilly and Mink Muffs). Recessionista looked interesting, but Stylenomics really grabbed my attention and resembles nothing in my collection, so that's the one I picked up. It looked almost black in the bottle, but obviously from pictures and swatches it has a strong green undertone. I'm excited to try it out!

What fall colors are you looking forward to?

Weekend Update

Friday afternoon I got my long awaited Gilt order from the Melinda Maria sale. The question is, how many of these pieces can you wear at once? The answer is 4 out of 5, because I can't wear 2 pairs of earrings at once.

The newly organized closet has made me remember how many shoes I love that I don't wear. Tragic, isn't it. Busted these out Friday night and can't remember why they've been sitting unworn for so long. (Well, there was that year + when I could barely walk in flats, let alone anything with a heel, so that probably had a lot to do with it...)

Speaking of the closet, my boots aren't slouchy anymore! I'm calling the closet done - for now.

How was your weekend?

Makeup Spending Freeze Update

It's been about a month since I bought any makeup (there was no official start date, and there's no date I'm trying to get to - this stands a better chance of lasting longer that way) and so far it's been pretty easy. I went through my vanity and set out a lot of items I wanted to try and use more. Just doing that has stopped this from being boring or monotonous so far. If I make it another month there will be another update :)

Mini Closet Remodel

The mini closet remodel was done last weekend, and I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. The picture above gives a basic overview of what the closet looks like now. The main thing I wanted to work on was shoe storage. Of course it got way more complicated than that.

On the left is 2 sets of shelves that are attached together and secured to the wall. Those hold heels and wedges for the most part. The cubbies hold flats and sandals, and boots are still standing (and will have inserts soon). Nothing is completely full, so there's room for more :)

Besides the shoe storage there's a full length mirror on the door now (instead of shoes), an ottoman (the lid comes off for, you guessed it - storage) that doubles as a step stool, my Vogue prints are framed and hanging now, and I have 4 new drawers and baskets which hold small purses, wristlets, clutches, bathing suits and cover ups, camisoles, shorts, and hats.

Whew. It was a long weekend. But I'm extremely happy with how everything turned out!

August 8, 2012

I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones...

I'm waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I'm breathing in the chemicals
I'm breaking in, shaping up, checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse

This isn't the Imagine Dragons song that's all over the radio right now, but I like this one about a million times more. That's a rough estimation, not exact. In a month or so it'll probably be all over the radio and I might change my mind. But I seriously doubt it.

Time to let go...

Working on the closet this weekend of course lead to a mini closet clean out. In total, I came up with about 2 garbage bags worth - ie, nowhere near what happened when I did the massive closet clean out. It got me thinking though - when do you get rid of something? When there's not room for it? When a certain amount of time has passed and you haven't worn it? Space used to always be my motivation, but that's not an issue anymore. Putting a time limit seems arbitrary because what about things like really dressy pieces? I rarely have a reason to wear them, but that doesn't mean those shoes, dresses, etc. should be given away.

So, how do you handle it? When is it time for something to go?

August 6, 2012

Weekend Update

This weekend the closet renovation was underway. I might not need to buy any black heels for awhile.

These finally got framed and are now hanging in the closet.

But I guess my sister had the more exciting weekend. She did meet Taylor Swift. I don't know, it's kind of a toss up if you ask me. Ok fine, meeting Taylor Swift probably wins.

How was your weekend?

Summer Candles

It's no secret I'm candle obsessed. Slatkin & Co. are definitely some of my favorites. Here are the ones I've been obsessed with this summer:

Jungle Kiss - peach, sandalwood and coconut. Not a typical summer scent because of the combination> I like that it's more interesting.

Pineapple Punch - just like it sounds, but not overwhelming. Probably my favorite from what I've used this summer.

Bahama Fizz - kiwi, banana and orange flower. It smells like a tropical vacation. I'm not kidding.

What's your favorite summer scent? I love all these but I know I'll be excited to get my hands on Leaves and the other fall candles soon. There is no fall in Alabama, so you have to mimic it with candles. True story.

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil

I've been using Organix hair products for years but I think I've found my new favorite of their lines (and there are a lot to choose from) - the Moroccan Argan Oil line. So far I've tried the shampoo, conditioner, and intensive treatment (basically a leave in conditioner). I love them all. The scent is great, and the intensive treatment is going to be amazing in the winter. You can get Organix at the drug store, and it goes on sale a lot so it's easy to get a great deal on the products.

What's the latest drug store find you're loving?

August 1, 2012

But it's not the same as having you here...

If I was a second too late
Or a moment too soon
Or an hour too long
Tell me baby would you wait a bit longer?
I wonder if you would
Or would you be long gone?

If you only know KT Tunstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" you're missing out. Case in point - this song. Just go ahead and stop and listen to it. You won't be sorry.
