I get so tired of working so hard for our survival...

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

Everybody knows this song, although with this arrangement you might not recognize it immediately - which is something I love. Something I didn't realize about In Your Eyes until I looked up the lyrics for this post - it's extremely melodramatic. Like over the top. I still love it, though :)

J. Crew March 2012

I love getting all my catalogs in the mail, and J. Crew is probably the one I look forward to the most.

Love, love, love. It's not even that I want to go out and buy everything I see in the J. Crew catalog (although that would make me very happy), but it usually helps to give me ideas of outfits I can put together from things I already have. Always a good thing.

What's your favorite catalog?

February Photo A Day

Drink - I can't remember what night of the week this was, but every night is wine night as far as I'm concerned. Ok, it doesn't happen that way, but it would be nice.

Something you hate to do - I think the overflowing bins of laundry make it pretty obvious that I hate to do it. Oh, and the stuff spread out on the washer and dryer is stuff that can't go in the dryer. I'm also apparently too lazy to buy one of those $10 drying racks.

Handwriting - the card on the flowers delivered on Valentine's Day.

A fave photo of you - this picture is in our wedding album, which is why you can see the corner of another picture in it. I'm usually not a fan of pictures of myself when I'm not smiling but I have always loved this one.

Where you work - it is seriously where I get the most work done. We have a home office but I'm rarely in there.

Your shoes - these were what I was wearing that day. Considering I have 4 pairs of Revas, that can be said a lot of days.

I bought the LensLight app recently and used it in a couple of these pictures. I love it! Paired with Instagram it's definitely worth the $.99 :)

Friend Friday - Technology

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly Chic. One week each month Katy puts together a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you answer them on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic

This week we're talking about technology.

we♥it

1. What are the tools you use to blog?
My Macbook, digital camera & iPhone/Instagram are the main ones. Facebook & Twitter, too, of course. And e-mail. That's a given, right?

2. What technology item is on your wish-list?
A DSLR. Still taking recommendations :)

3. Through the barrage of posts, tweets, pics, poses, messages, etc... how do you avoid becoming a slave to the constant infiltration of information?
I think having my iPhone, or any smart phone helps a lot. I have my e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, everything really right there so I can check it when I want to and don't feel like I'm going to miss anything. And I can ignore it when I want to - goes both ways :)

If you're interested in FBFF, go to Modly Chic for more information then e-mail Katy if you want to join the group.

What I'm Wearing...

Dress - Jason Wu for Target, Cardigan - Express, Leggings - Express, Boots - BCBGeneration, Ring - House of Harlow, Bracelet - House of Harlow, Earrings - Limited, Watch - Swiss Legend

Saturday was spent out looking for a new car. Since it's basically shopping, I should be good at it. But I hated it. I also have no idea what one should wear to go car shopping, so I went with one of the new Target dresses. Might as well wear something cute, right? It took a couple of frustrating days but I finally figured out it's not car shopping I hate - it's car salesman. My approach to buying a car is virtually the same as anything else I buy - show me my options then get the hell out of my way. Is that such a hard thing to do? No, I don't think so.

What I'm Loving...

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you know this past week has largely been made up of car shenanigans. Blah. I think that sums it up.
Here's what I'm loving:

Winter?
Yeah, it never looks like this in Alabama, but so far, this winter has been especially mild. I can't say random 70 degree days are upsetting to me at all. Now if winter arrives in March, or April, that will be a different story.

The Help
I saw the movie when it came out, but just got around to reading the book on my Nook. Even though I did it backwards, I definitely think the movie did the book justice and I enjoyed both. It's an easy read, plus the movie is nominated at the Oscars. Yeah I'm not sure why that matters, but I threw it in there.

Slatkin & Co. Cinnamon and Clove Buds
This is the last of my "winter-y" candles and while I'm looking forward to spring scents, I'm glad I still have this one left. I always love anything with cinnamon and this isn't any exception.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals - Apologies
He said it's crazy
How love stays with me
You know it hurts me
That I didn't figure it out before
And now it's too late for a soliloquy
It's way too late for dignity
It's time for apologies
I've had 2 Grace Potter & the Nocturnals albums on iTunes for a long time now, and I'm still constantly falling in love with one of the songs. This one has been on repeat for weeks now and I don't think I'll get tired of it anytime soon.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

February 21, 2012

Oh, it's not that you should care. I just wanted you to know.

Baby, when I'm yellin' at you,
It's not your fault
It's not your fault, yeah and
Baby cuz I'm crazy for you,
It's not your fault
It's not your fault, yeah
Maybe I'm a little confused,
It's not your fault
It's not your fault, yeah and
Baby, it a wonderful news.
It's not your fault
It's not your fault, yeah
Oh, it's not that you should care.
I just wanted you to know.

I'm pretty confident this song is going to get me through the week. I mean, it is only Tuesday, right? Yeah. Going back to listening to this on repeat.

February Photo A Day

Makes you happy - my jewelry armoire and the stuff in it. (Post on the armoire and how I organized it here.  The organization is pretty much the same but seeing as that was 10 months ago, I might have added a few pieces. Or 50. Don't judge.)

Inside your closet. I know I've done posts on different sections of my closet, but never the closet as a whole. Probably because I really, really want to rip everything out and redo it but who knows when that will happen. Until then, it is a good amount of space, and Jared has graciously given 90-95% of it to me. To be fair, he's not being crowded out. He just doesn't have a lot of stuff. It's part of the reason we get along so well.

Blue. I think the first Christmas we were married I asked for a cute tea kettle. My Mom gave us this and I love it. And it is cute! It probably looked better in our apartment, but I don't want to replace it.

Heart. From my Valentine's Day card from Jared. We did our traditional Valentine's Day dinner at home, which I think is definitely the way to go.

Phone. I figured I'd do the obvious and take a picture of my phone in the mirror, then decided on this instead. Much better, I think.

Something new. A Company of Thieves song I'd bought on iTunes the night before. It was either this or some Greenies I'd bought for August.

Time. This is the "Alabama wall" in the office. There's plenty of other Alabama memorabilia in the office, too. Roll Tide.

I know you've seen all these if you follow me on Instagram, but it's still fun to post them here and get to write a little more about them.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Review

Chanel Perfection Lumiere

When I ran out of my last liquid foundation, I knew Chanel was going to be next on my list. Perfection Lumiere is the newest Chanel foundation, and I assume is meant to replace Pro Lumiere, which is no longer available. It works for all skin types, meaning it's a good choice for combination skin (mine). The biggest con I'd read in reviews was that it dries quickly, so you have to work fast to apply it. This hasn't been a problem for me. I've applied with my fingers, a sponge, and my MAC 190 and it's been fine each way. It's not so fast that you have to work at warp speed to apply it, but you're good to keep applying makeup as soon as you're done. It's long lasting, and I like that it has a smooth, but definitely not matte finish. So far I'm very pleased with it.

What foundation are you using right now?

Birmingham Fashion Week

I know. I bet you didn't even know Birmingham has a fashion week, did you? Well it just started last April, so it's been around less than a year. This past Wednesday - Sunday was the 2nd Birmingham Fashion Week and thanks to Jared's brother, we got to go on Saturday night.

There were shows from local stores like Shaia's and Gus Mayer, then Christopher Collins and Leona Collection, and finally What Goes Around Comes Around. It was a lot of fun and pretty impressive what they've been able to do in less than a year! I'm just glad Birmingham has something :)

And I can be lonely anywhere...

I walk in
You walk out of rooms everywhere
I’m talking
You’re looking through me
With a blank stare
And I can’t help but ask if today would be my last
Would you care?

I came across this on a Pandora station. I can't even remember which one, and I wish I could because it's genius for playing this. Gorgeous, haunting, beautiful song. Songs like these are some of my favorites. You expect them to be entirely one way just from seeing the title or lyrics, and then you're completely surprised.
It's the little things in life, right?

See? He's her lobster.

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm sure I've said it before, but I like Valentine's Day. Always have. I'm up for any day that centers around wearing pink and red, exchanging cheesy cards, and eating heart shaped chocolate. Do you need to set aside a day for love? Of course not. Doesn't mean it's not fun though. And I've had plenty of fun with friends on Valentine's Day, too.

So enjoy today, no matter who you're spending it with. I'll be with my lobster :)

February Photo A Day

More of #febphotoaday

10am. This was a lazy Sunday. Ok, a typical Sunday.

Dinner. Yeah this probably happens once a week.

Buttons. I tried to do this while I was actually using the treadmill, but that was impossible (meaning I took it, but you'd have no idea what the picture was of). So I just took it when I finished my workout.

Sun. Actual conversation when I showed Jared this picture:
Him: Where did you take this?
Me: This is our backyard.
Him: Really?
Me: Yeah. Have you seen our house during daylight?

Front door. Well, more the welcome mat but the door is boring.

Self portrait. Hardest #febphotoaday so far!

Still having fun with #febphotoaday!

Pier 1

Last Friday night before dinner we went to Pier 1 to kill some time. Like I could really come out empty handed, right? I didn't expect to get several things, but between sales and finding things I was looking for, it worked out pretty well. The peacock candle is called harmony and paradise and is the most amazing thing I think I've ever smelled. I want 10 more. Plus, how cute is the box? I've never seen taper candles that caught my attention, so those were a given. The wall hanging is in our bathroom because that's one of the empty places I wanted something. Then Island Orchard was 20% off, so I got the little beads plus a bottle of the oil for the reed diffuser since it's my favorite Pier 1 scent.

But I really want more of the peacock candles...

What I'm Wearing...

Shirt - GAP, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes - Missoni for Target, Scarf - Paula Bianco, Earrings - gifted, Ring - Express

This is what I wore on Sunday for what ended up being a marathon day of my Dad's birthday/Jason Wu for Target/the in-laws to watch the Superbowl. I'm still not really sure who was playing. All I know is they looked like they were wearing matching colors and I'm pissed off I missed Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem. But oh well. That's the price you pay when you detour to Target to see if you can snag anything from the latest designer collaboration hours after the store opened.
Oh, and you know how I've said before that one day I'll learn to not take pictures in the middle of the night when I get home? I lied. I can't learn that. Fine, it wasn't the middle of the night, it was 10pm, but you get the picture.

What I'm Loving...

So far February is turning out to be a pretty boring month. I guess that's usually true though, and now I need to go knock on wood before I curse myself. Seriously.
Here's what I'm loving:

The Descendants
I saw this last week and not that it's overly complicated or anything, but I'm not sure how to explain it without spoilers. If you've seen the preview you can tell it's obviously not a happy movie, but at the same time it's not entirely depressing or anything either. And it definitely has it's funny moments. Go see it and tell me what you think.

Essie Shine of the Times
This was the Essie Luxeffect I really wanted and I'm glad I got my hands on it. It flashes every possible color making it both gorgeous and attention grabbing.

The Voice
It took about 10 seconds of watching this after the Superbowl to get hooked. It's like they took everything that annoys me about American Idol, got rid of it, and made a new show. Brilliant!

Fitz & the Tantrums - Don't Got To Work It Out

I don't know but I been told
The world outside is oh so cold
Late at night when you're alone
Do you think about me now that I'm gone

Listen to this and tell me it's not stuck in your head 10 minutes later. Then an hour later. Then... well, just thank me.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?
