Friend Friday - What's in your bag?

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly Chic. Each week there is a theme or a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you make a post on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic.

This week we're doing a what's in my bag post.

Foley & Corinna bag. I can't remember the style name.

My keys are the only thing in the pocket on the back of the bag. In the back interior pocket I have my iPhone headphones, Boscia blotting papers, hair elastics and contact drops.

In the interior front pocket I have my Chanel double perfection, Altoids and Bliss hand cream.

Checkbook (I write like 2 checks a year, but I'll never remember to have a check with me when I need one so I just keep it in my bag), YSL wallet, Ray-Ban and Chanel sunglasses.

Rebecca Minkoff pouch with Boscia blotting papers, Altoids and Flowerbomb rollerball. If I'm switching to a clutch, I put my driver's license and a credit card in here, too.

Coach makeup bag with Chanel lipstick, UD lipgloss, cross, Angel solid perfume, 2 Burt's Bees lip shimmers and a Bobbi Brown lip treatment.

Nook tablet and iPhone. Actually both of these are rarely IN my bag because they're in my hand, but my phone is always with me and the Nook is with me if there's the slightest chance I'll have a few minutes to kill.

What I'm Wearing...

Dress - Banana Republic, Cardigan - Gap, Shoes - White House Black Market, Bracelet - J. Crew, Watch - Swiss Legend

I don't know if you can see it, but my nails are painted in Chanel's Mimosa (yellow). And, I'm obviously wearing a yellow cardigan, and the J. Crew bracelet is yellow. The night I wore this we went to dinner, then I stopped in Express and among other things, purchased (another) yellow bracelet. When we got home Jared said "You're really liking the yellow lately, aren't you?". I tried to make some kind of excuse, but you know what? I am liking the yellow lately. And I'm ok with that. Plus there wasn't another color in the Express bracelet, so I had to get the yellow. There go the excuses again...

What I'm Loving...

Well it's pretty easy to love most everything when you're on vacation for a week, but I always have a few more things, of course.
Here's what I'm loving:

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel
I've loved Fiona Apple since "Tidal", and I have all her albums so I've been waiting for this for... well, it's been 7 years since Extraordinary Machine. Dear Fiona, please don't take so long between albums anymore. Thank you.

Mint Sweet Tea
The herb garden has been pretty successful so far, the mint especially. I'm trying to find as many ways as possible to use it and so far one of my favorites is mint sweet tea. I love the different flavor, and it cuts back on how much sugar I normally put in it.

Midnight in Paris
Yeah, it came out a couple of years ago, but Jared and I just recently watched it. I've told you before I'm a couple of years behind on movies, books, etc. It's really cut though and another reminder that I might need to watch things a little quicker.

Santigold - Disparate Youth
Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather
Another roadblock in our way
But if we go, we go together
Our hands are tied here if we stay
I don't think I paid much attention the first time I heard this, but after hearing it more it became on those songs that gets stuck in my head. In a good way. I love it so much I made a Pandora station hoping I can find more like it!

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Tatcha Skin Care Review

A few weeks ago Tatcha contacted me wondering if I'd like to try some of their products. After looking at their website, I couldn't wait to see and try the products and they haven't disappointed. The packaging, as I expected from what I saw on the site, was gorgeous and all the products have been amazing. Here's what I've tried:

One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil - rub a little of this in your hands then put on your face to remove all your makeup. The smell is heavenly, it's simple to use, and it works fast without having to rub your face too much.
Rice Enzyme Powder - there are 3 different types of this, recommended for different skin types. Classic is what is best for my skin. This is interesting because it's a powder, which turns into a cleanser with a little water. Very gentle and effective.
Deep Brightening Serum - I use a small pump of this in the morning and at night after the enzyme powder. It's lightweight and hydrates my skin well. I think this is really great if you have dry skin at all.
Moisture Rich Silk Cream - you all know I'm always on the quest for the perfect moisturizer. This might be it. Really great consistency, which is important to me. Absorbs easily into the skin and I like the scent.
Original Japanese Beauty Papers - these have no powder and no fragrance. They work great without messing up your makeup at all.

So far I'm incredibly impressed with the Tatcha products I've tried. Have you ever used Tatcha? If you haven't but are interested, you might want to check back here in a few days! :)

Beach Bound

We're at the beach for the week and I couldn't have been more ready for it. Sun, sand, and shopping are calling my name! I'm sure I'll be around on Instagram and Twitter, so be sure to look there for pics and updates :)

Friend Friday - After the Wearing

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly Chic. Each week there is a theme or a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you make a post on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic.

This week we're talking about after the wearing - how often you clean out your closet and what happens when you do.

1. How often do you go through your closet to purge the things you no longer wear?
Not often enough. Before we bought this house, when we were in an apartment and then a townhouse, I was forced to clean out several times a year because of space limitations. Space isn't an issue now, so laziness stops me from doing closet clean outs as often as I should. When I finally did it last year it took months. Literally.
2. What do you do with the things you are through with?
See if anyone I know wants any of it, consign and eBay things that still have tags or are somewhat valuable, then donate the rest.
3. Have you ever sold on consignment or through online boutiques? What has your experience been like?
I've done a consignment store and eBay. It's worth it if something is new, has tags, or is a brand or popular that people want to pay for. Otherwise it's not worth the time.
4. More and more people are concerned about the fast rotation of fashion and how that is filling our landfills. What are you doing to decrease your clothing trash pile?
I can't say that I've ever worried about my clothing items ending up in landfills. Yes, I'm sure things do eventually, but like I said I try to find a home for things I don't want anymore.
5. What's been your favorite/best score from a thrift store or consignment shop?
I've never bought anything in a consignment shop and the only time I've bought things in a thrift store were in college for swaps and sorority parties. I was unimpressed with what I found then so I never made an effort to go back. I think how good the items you find in thrift stores varies in different parts of the country and in Alabama, it's nothing to write home about.

A little perspective...

Instagram picture from last night

Yesterday was not a good day. I had an MRI and an appointment with my neurologist so Jared took off work so he could go with me. I was 5 minutes late to the MRI which resulted in me not getting my MRI until 2 hours past my appointment time. Obviously this doesn't make sense, because what they wouldn't admit was that they double booked and what they also wouldn't do is be straight forward about how long their mistake was going to delay me. I missed my appointment with my neurologist, rescheduled for the "next available appointment" (3+ weeks away) and was in general extremely pissed off at how much time was wasted, the incompetence I had to deal with, and how much of a pain in my ass this will end up being. After all this, Jared and I went to lunch where I was firing off angry text messages to my Mom venting about how the morning had gone. She texted me back that she'd been at jury duty all morning and had just seen a man get sentenced to life in prison. Talk about a slap in the face.
I have nothing to complain about.
There's no excuse for me to petty and bitter with all that I have been given in life.
Yes, we all need our moments to whine and feel sorry for ourselves but sometimes you also need a good reminder to snap out of it and get over yourself

What I'm Loving...

It's a good thing we're leaving for the beach in a few days, because this week is making me need a vacation. How are there so many things you have to do to get ready to leave? That just seems strange, doesn't it?
Here's what I'm loving:

Philosophy Aloha Girl
I'm not always the biggest fan of coconut, but Aloha Girl is a vanilla coconut so maybe that's what makes the difference. Maybe it's also that it makes me think of summer. I don't care, I just like the way it smells, ok?

Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee
I don't know why I waited so long to try the Lip Butters, but I did. Of the 2 I picked up Creme Brulee is far and away getting more wear. It's a perfect nude and I love the consistency of these.

Most Talkative
First off, I love Bravo. Real Housewives? I'm there. Watch What Happens Live? Love it. If you like anything on Bravo, you'll like reading Andy Cohen's book. It's full of great stories and is pretty hilarious.

The Wombats - Jump Into the Fog
I've made some bad decisions, I'll admit that freely
It's just that life tastes sweeter when it's wrapped in debauchery
So drop your map, drop your plans, drop that five-step program
Because there's not an ounce of faith in this leap

It's clear you feel nothing so jump into the fog with me
I don't know how much this is playing on other stations, but Alt Nation on SiriusXM plays it a lot and I love them for it. It's fun and catchy and I want to listen to it repeatedly.

Ok, so that's What I'm Loving right now! What about you?

Challenge accepted.

Last week I posted about sunglasses I've been looking at online. The two pairs that are the same style are Chloe, and they are the ones I've been looking at the longest. So far, the best deal I had found on them was on Bluefly, where I posted the pictures from. But I figured something better would (could, should) come along.
The day of the post there was a Groupon on Chloe sunglasses. And the ones I wanted were in the sale! And they were $85! Cue jumping and screaming. But alas, I didn't act fast enough, and the style I wanted sold out. Oh but wait...
The next day Chloe sunglasses were in a Hautelook sale. And the ones I wanted were in the sale! And they were... well, $120, so the Groupon was better, but life sucks sometimes and when retail is $350+ and Bluefly is $160+, you need to jump at $120 when you missed the Groupon. Know what I'm saying?

So the moral of the story is - if you're addicted enough to online shopping and belong to enough deal and sample sale sites, eventually - victory will be yours.

I couldn't help it...

I bought these Friday night, and posted the Instagram picture pretty much as soon as I got home. Like I said there, they're tacky. They're ridiculous. And I love love love them. I'd wanted long, feathery earrings for awhile now but hadn't found any I loved. These were originally about $30 each (insanity), but were on sale for under $10 with an additional 30% off.
Now we're talking.

How was your weekend? Cause this was the highlight of mine. I mean, the rest was good, but can you top insanely over the top earrings? Nope.

Friend Friday - Vacation

Friend Friday
The Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group was created by Katy over at Modly Chic. Each week there is a theme or a set of questions and on Friday if you want to participate, you make a post on your blog and link back up at Modly Chic.

This week we're talking about vacation.... beach reading, packing tips, dream vacation, swimsuits, whatever vacation means to you.

At the end of the month, we're heading to the beach for a week so right now when it comes to vacations, that's all that's on my mind. Packing for the beach is simple - shorts, swim suits, cover ups and sunglasses. Days are spent alternating between the beach and the pool, reading magazines and books on my Nook, and listening to my iPod. We're probably taking another vacation in August around our anniversary, but nothing has been planned yet. San Francisco has been tossed around, but then we thought maybe we should put that off until we can do a longer trip seeing more of California. Thoughts? Ideas?

If you're interested in FBFF, go to Modly Chic for more information then e-mail Katy if you want to join the group.

(Online) Window Shopping

Blame it on the upcoming beach trip, but I can't stop looking at sunglasses:

All from Bluefly. And all pretty much Tom Ford or Chloe. I already have 2 pairs of Chloe sunglasses, so obviously Tom Ford is a better choice. Right? Thought so.

Flightless Bird

Have I found you?
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping
Or lost you?
American mouth

I love the original version of this song, but this even more stripped down version I found on YouTube is pretty stunning. The lyrics don't make much sense to me (something I'm usually obsessed with), but it's still incredibly soothing to listen to.

Arrested Development

Since Jared bought a Roku, we've been getting a lot more use out of Netflix. Also, since it's summer it's a good time to catch up on TV shows we've missed or never saw. Case in point - Arrested Development. I'd seen some of the episodes before, but right now we're watching - well, probably all of them before it's said and done (it was only on a few seasons). Anyway, once that's done what should we watch? What are your favorite shows/movies/documentaries that are on Netflix streaming?

June 11, 2012

Lazy Rainy Weekend

It was a pretty lazy weekend. Saturday we went to the pool for the first time but it was cloudy so we didn't stay too long. Saturday night and Sunday we just stayed in, ordered pizza, and watched movies (Horrible Bosses and Bridesmaids), Netflix, and the Mad Men season finale. Considering it was rainy and dreary on Sunday, staying in and being lazy seemed like the perfect thing to do.

What did you do this weekend?

Rewined Candles

If you've been following my blog, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for basically any amount of time, you know I love my candles. When we were in Charleston on Market Street, I found the most amazing shop - Rewined Candles. That's right - they make candles in recycled wine bottles. (You'll also know I enjoy the occasional glass of wine if you've been following my blog, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for basically any amount of time.) Anyway, I think this is a genius concept and I like to imagine the company had me in mind when they originated. (Don't tell me they didn't). Right now I'm burning the Mimosa candle, but Champagne and Riesling were also calling my name.

What's your favorite candle right now?

What I'm Wearing...

Shirt - J. Crew, Jeans - Old Navy, Shoes- Rainbow, Bracelets - J. Crew and Unknown, Earrings, Unknown, Watch - Swiss Legend

I know - J. Crew t-shirt, jeans, flip flops, what's the big deal? There isn't one, really. Oh, except on the website J. Crew called this shirt "___ rose". I can't remember exactly what it was, but what it is is neon. Just neon. No rose. Neon. So what's my reaction to receiving a day-glo shirt in the mail?

To pile on some more. Ok, actually none of this is really neon, just 238058 bright colors at once. It's like I'm 8 years old again. Color wise, at least. And I'm ok with that.

June 6, 2012

And I don't want to be your regret, I'd rather be your cocoon...

Well based on your smile
I'm betting all of this
Might be over soon
But your bound to win
Cause if I'm betting against you
I think I'd rather lose
But this is all that I have

If anyone else sang this song, it would come off as needy and most likely annoying. Jack Johnson singing it doesn't give that off at all. Plus, "blah blah blah" are in the lyrics. I'm entirely ok with that.

June 5, 2012

A little summer reading...

Since getting my Nook, I've been reading a lot more. (Wasn't that my New Year's resolution? Go me.) If someone had pointed out that the Nook was like the iPod in the sense I could just press a button and have something at my fingertips immediately, I would have had one years ago. Anyway, I'm needing some book recommendations. Some books I've read recently and liked were "I've Got Your Number" (Sophie Kinsella's latest), "By Invitation Only" (the book by the Gilt founders), and both of Chevy Steven's books (psychological thrillers - reading before bed was a mistake). Anyway, the point is I'm all over the place when it comes to books, so any and all recommendations are great :)

What are you reading lately? And what's your all time favorite book?

June 4, 2012

Be fearless.

I saw this at Target Friday night and decided immediately it belonged in our house. (Yes, we go to Target on Friday night. Gets pretty crazy over here.) I asked Jared if he thought it was cheesy and he said no. Not sure if he really thought that or just could tell that I wanted it, but whatever. You can argue that it's cheesy but at the same time, I like everything that it says. It's good advice. Take chances? Practice kindness Let go? Be fearless? Those are all things I need to remember. So this is now hanging in our bedroom so I can look at it daily and try to remember these things.

How was your weekend?

Summer Wishes

What's one thing you hope to accomplish this summer? Lately I've been thinking that life is a little boring. Then I quickly remembered last summer and how after a string of appointments and tests I found out I needed eye surgery, we had to cancel our beach vacation, our Vegas anniversary almost got canceled, and I still had to go through a 2nd surgery.

This summer I'll happily take boring. So, I'm hoping for more of the same. Because with my life, if I'm not bored, I'm in the hospital. Now with my luck I need to go knock on wood about 1000 times.

Here's to a boring summer :)
