Shoes, shoes, shoes...

In my dream world, I want to completely redo the master bedroom closet - like rip everything out and have a custom built, InStyle magazine looking, chandelier from the ceiling dream of a closet. Realistically this is never going to happen. (I can hold out for the chandelier, right?) Anyway, I'm going to try to take a more practical and affordable approach to making slight renovations to the closet. First project is shoes. They're in 5 different places in the closet, which is crazy. The wall at the end is blank so that's where I think they should go, obviously, except for boots which have to stand up. The problem is finding something that will hold them all. Thoughts? Ideas? What do you use for shoe storage? I need pictures and links!

Weekend Update

We went out to lunch yesterday at Flip Burger and it was way too hot to sit outside. It's never too hot to take a picture from your booth inside, though.

And a hot day is a perfect excuse for a Krispy Kreme milkshake. Actually I could come up with about 100 excuses to have one of these. Amazing.

How was your weekend?

Online Window Shopping

A couple of weeks ago I decided I need a new purse. Why? I don't know. Sometimes these things just pop into my head.

Looking at Shopbop isn't really helping any. Which one is your favorite?

What I'm Wearing... Instagram Style

Dress - Banana Republic, Leggings - Express, Shoes - White House Black Market, Belt - Limited, Necklace - J. Crew

I know, another Instagram outfit post. But it's just so easy when you get home at 12:30 am, and your dog is puking in the kitchen, and you really just want to call it a day. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

You got my heart on a string...

My oh my
You’re getting under my skin
Don’t know why I’m always letting you in
Just when I got my life together again,
Here you are standing there
Tell me why I should try

If you're not familiar with Tristan Prettyman, well, listen to this first. Then go listen to "Simple As It Should Be". Then thank me.

That's better, J. Crew

Meet the J. Crew brulee necklace. I love it. I've loved it for months. It was $115 and that's ridiculous. Then it went on sale for $79.99 Still ridiculous. Then J. Crew had the 40% off sale.
Now we're talking.
This brought it down to $47.99, which is still slightly ridiculous but I'd wanted it for months so I grabbed it. In 2 colors. And now I'm very happy.

Towne & Reese

I don't watch the Bachelorette, but apparently she wears a lot of Towne & Reese jewelry - now that's something I'm definitely ok with.

Riley bracelet

Hannah earrings

Finley necklace
Brooke earrings

I've been on a jewelry buying spree lately, but I think I might need a couple of more pieces now. Through July 25, Towne & Reese is offering my readers a 10% discount using the code BACHFINALE10. Which piece is your favorite?

Makeup Spending Freeze

So, I kinda like makeup. And I might have a good amount of it. Lately I've been working on trying to use items in my vanity that I tend to overlook, and it's made me realize just how much is there. I'm tempted to put myself on a makeup buying freeze. The main problem is whenever I tell myself I can't have something it makes me want it 10 times more. It's worth a try though, right? Here's what I'm thinking - just makeup. Not haircare, skincare, or nails. (I don't want to kill myself or anything.) I can buy something if I literally run out of it - so that would really only be foundation, powder, or mascara, and I could go awhile before that happened. Now the bigger question - how long should I do this? Thoughts?

What I'm Wearing... Instagram Style

Dress - Old Navy, Cardigan - Banana Republic, Shoes - White House Black Market, Bracelet - Express, Earrings - Express

I've found the answer to "how to find new ways to wear a maxi dress". It's that there isn't one really, so just keep buying different color cardigans to throw over it. Works for me.

Nothings wrong when the song ends in the minor key...

But you were such a super guy
'Til the second you get a whiff of me
We were like a wishing well
And a bolt of electricity
But we could still support each other
All we gotta do is avoid each other
Nothing wrong when a song ends in the minor key
Nothing wrong when a song ends in the minor key

I'm going to stop posting Fiona Apple songs. Someday. That day is not today. You know what I love most about this song though? It does end in a minor key. And I'm fine with that.

What I'm Wearing... Instagram Style

Shirt - J. Crew, Shorts - Old Navy, Shoes - Express, Ring - House of Harlow

Apparently someone read my blog post about how I wasn't going to get to wear this "summery" J. Crew shirt until Christmastime, because last Thursday we had a thunderstorm and a rapid temperature drop. Ok, it was still near 80 but I know a sign when I see one and this was a sign to rip the tags off the J. Crew top and put it to use. Done and done.
Also, if I can get the quality of the iPhone pictures just a tad better, Instagram outfit posts will do much better justice than my digital camera at this point. Sad, but true.

Weekend Update

August hid from the vacuum...
The rest of the garden may be struggling, but the mint is doing fine... (mojitos, anyone?)
Keeping things classy over here...
...and that's what my Mom is doing today (probably not, but she should consider it. Coco has a few issues.)

How was your weekend?

More summer reading...

Another summer reading post :)
I read this at the beach and it's probably one of my favorite books I've read so far this summer. I was surprised how there was more to it than the average chick lit book. Has anyone else read it or any other Emily Giffin books? If you have, should I pick up some others by her?

What are you reading right now? The last summer reading post got lots of great suggestions in the comments, so I'm hoping this one does too :)

The New Black

It's been awhile since something caught my attention nail wise. Then I saw this:
The New Black Typography 4-piece Nail Polish Set

There is another set, but the Weekly Journal set is my favorite. I saw a picture of the finished product in Glamour a month ago and haven't been able to get it out of my mind. That's a sure sign I should buy it, right?

I get feisty whenever I'm with him...

I'm a hot knife- if I'm a hot knife-
I'm a hot knife if he's a pad of butter
If I get a chance, I'm gonna show him that
He's never gonna need- never need another.

Ok, first let's talk about the title of Fiona's new album - The Idler Wheel is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do.
Yep. Sold.
I could listen to this song all day for several reasons. Mainly because I just love it, but also because the lyrics are catchy and I want to figure out the chords. Ok, so most people probably don't do that last part but I do.

J. Crew, we have a problem...

J. Crew Maritime Shirt

When we were at the beach, we did a little outlet shopping which obviously needed to involve J. Crew. I got a couple of things there, including this top (in navy stripes, but I can't find a picture). Clearly I didn't think this through very well. J. Crew thinks this is a summer top, and in Alaska or something I'm sure it is. But its 3/4 sleeves. And the weight of it is seriously thicker than what I wear in the dead of winter here. (Again, I didn't think this through very well.) The thing is giving me a heat stroke from me just looking at it. WHAT WAS I THINKING.
Ok. Vent over. It's cute, and when it cools off in December maybe I can wear it. Oh, one more vent - the J. Crew outlet feels that $88 is an acceptable price for the bubble necklace. No, J. Crew. No.

Movin' On

We unpacked...
And organized...
And found a new home for everything...
...and I'm exhausted.

How was your weekend?

July 6, 2012

I'm too young to be feeling this way...

Everythings still spinning out
I'm undone
Breaking out of the cage
But before the beast can get away
There goes another day

How did I miss the fact that Grace Potter and the Nocturnal's new album came out in June? Well no worries, as soon as I realized the full album was out I clicked purchase on iTunes in record speed. This and Fiona were on heavy repeat the whole time I was at the beach, and still are. This is probably my favorite song off the album, but if you know me you know I have about 4 others that at any given moment I would also say are my favorite. So just listen to this for now, and I'm sure the others will be popping up here eventually.

What are you listening to lately? Oh, and have a good weekend :)

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of July!
Hope everyone is having a day off to relax and spend time with friends and family. I'm leaving tomorrow for Nashville because for the 3rd year in a row, my sister is moving over 4th of July weekend. If you're a long time follower you know my sister's moves are usually eventful (moving twice in a week, having her stuff stolen by the moving company, etc.). Here's hoping for a calmer experience but if not, feel free to enjoy what I'm sure will be my imminent mental breakdown via Twitter. Oh, social media. Always entertaining.

Revlon Lip Butter Review

picture taken with Instagram

A couple of weeks ago I picked up 2 Revlon Lip Butters. The two I got are Creme Brulee (which is an original, I believe) and Peach Parfait (part of the newest collection). These have no scent and no taste, which I'm fine with. The consistency and glossiness of these is great. I don't know that they truly add a lot of moisture to your lips, but they certainly don't take any away. You also don't have to re-apply them as often as I would have imagined. The retail price of $7 is a little high in my opinion, but lots of stores have Buy 1 Get 1 sales with these, and when I got mine at CVS you got $4 back for buying 2. (BOGO is still the better deal, obviously.)

Have you tried Revlon Lip Butters? Which colors do you have?

Back from the beach!

After 8 days, I'm back from the beach. If you follow on Twitter or Instagram, you know when we got to the Gulf Coast there was the threat of a tropical storm dumping a ton of rain on us. Luckily, it went the other direction so we got plenty of days full of sun, sand, and the pool (and some sunburn - my SPF 55 has failed me). Anyway, now I'm getting back into the swing of things. There are plenty of pictures on my Instagram feed (fashionsmaven) if you missed them.

How was your week/weekend?
